No they don't. I saw them a couple of months ago in Oakland and the show was one of the best I've seen in my life. Extraordinary energy. John Frusciante is an amazing guitarist, and Flea is a kickass bassist (Though its too bad that John's not with them anymore). Kiedis is a great vocalist and the RHCP songs are insanely fun to rock out to at a concert.
Not to mention, HUGE nostalgia factor for Coachella's target demographic (college age kids).
They've played Coachella twice and, by most accounts, they weren't very good either time. I saw their 2003 performance and was completely underwhelmed. I can't comment personally on 2007, but most opinions I have read were regarding how unimpressive they were.
This AFP=Atoms for Peace and AFP=Amanda Fucking Palmer is AFP= absolutely fucking pissing...me off...

I used to like them, and like you said, the nostalgia factor for me would be huge. However, I would not be stoked to see them at Coachella at all. They've whored themselves out to practically every damn festival this past summer and from the live streams I've watched, they sounded terrible every time.
My point is this: there are a SHIT TON of bands that have never played. The only reason to keep getting the same overdone acts every three to four years is to sell tickets (although with the festival already being sold out basically, I can't see why this should be a factor). Coachella was (is) great because of it's uniqueness and ability to put together a diverse lineup, different from other festivals, each year.
edit: I realize this is all based on the speculation, but my point still stands.
SHIT TON
Coachella 09, 10, 11, 12(1), 13(2)
It's all about the music.
I agree with what you say, Jen. When The Black Keys are a sub one year and headline the very next, that's a little off-putting. Hopefully there are plenty of fresh names on the lineup this year. I am resigned to the likelihood of bands like Hot Chip, Passion Pit, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, MGMT, The XX and many others all being back given that they are all popular, have played Coachella before and have recent or upcoming releases.
I'd imagine we see plenty of new artists and first timers as usual, but I believe it has been more difficult to maintain so much uniqueness since it went to a three-day format. When there are anywhere from 150-180 acts a year and only so many bands touring, I'd imagine it isn't as easy filling out the lineup without having a plethora of repeats.
It's that time of year again guys. -

Don't forget...after a band comes out and confirms they are playing, Monk will add it to the list and then proclaim that they predicted it.
It's just Suprefan wearing bra and panties.
Nine Inch Nails? I don't get it.
Where's RHCP I don't see them on the list![]()
