I suppose I didn't mean directly before Coachella but in the years leading up to it he was in retirement. I believe the first thing he started to do out of retirement was that "Save Water" campaign or whatever when he was touring around the world for charity (I think he even met with the UN or something about it).

He "retired" after The Black Album in 2003. He had a "farewell" concert at MSG in 2004, I believe. Since then, he has released three albums. His retirement ended in 2006.

By next year it will have been 6 years, and Alive 2007 didn't get them any more popular than they already were after human after all.

The huge explosion in EDM's popularity has made them superstars. They'd be closing out the entire festival on Sunday night if they were booked (which I doubt considering the album isn't done, which means they probably don't have a stage or live mix to play yet either). I don't think there's a single act that would have a bigger draw than Daft Punk at this moment in time.

There's a reason they're the only artists to have a "DP IS PLAYING THIS YEAR" rumor at all the big festivals every single year.

jack seems to sit on the KROQ lineup where recent bands have played Coa before though. Doesn't seem to necessarily mean that it's the top billing band to headline the following coa either.

Like Black Keys and Mumford were but were not headliners in 2011
Black Keys, Vampire Weekend and Brandon Flowers in 2010 but were not headers

Muse in 09 were mind, and the cure in 08.

so more recently, it's the band before headliner that does it. and with the killers doing april 13th/14th in mexico only leaves them the friday, makes them unlikely, this said, they are doing two sets of days dates straight, one lot in america this weekend another 3 end feb/start march in europe
