Absolutely. lol @ anyone who overly praises it or overly trashes it after one or two listens. There's so much to absorb, FlyLo's work takes time. I don't think Cosmogramma really sunk in until close to 10 spins.

After five listens through various times of day and states of mind, I can say that I love it. I look forward to getting to know its nooks and crannies more fully. Favorite moments are "Until the Colors Come" -> "Heave(n)" -> "Tiny Tortures," and the last couple tracks. Holy fuck. Shit is groovy and spacey and hot as fuck.

So my original plan was to wait until the official release to listen to this, but after seeing all the praise this morning I said "fuck it" and downloaded it. After three listens, I'm enjoying it very, very much. For me Cosmogramma was always going to be a really hard album to follow-up (it was my #1 album of 2010 by a fairly good margin), but I think he's done well to keep some of the elements from it which worked and to add in a few wrinkles to his sound as well. It's maybe not as much as a "unified," 50-minute listen like Cosmogramma is, but songs like "Tiny Tortures," "See Thru to U," and "Phantasm" make it a really strong addition to his catalog. Can't wait for a headlining LA club date to hear some of this stuff live.

Hmm, first time through and it sounds just like Cosmogramma, only rearranged. Some of the bass lines and drum patterns sound like they were lifted straight from the previous record. Don't get me wrong, I love Cosmogramma, I was just expecting the overall sound to be a little more varied and different rather than a continuation. I'm sure that's because of the leap between Los Angeles and Cosmogramma. "Phantasm" and "Sultan's Request" were my favorites.

Time to rinse and repeat.

As I understand it, some of these tracks found their beginnings a few years ago, he's just now come back around to them. So I guess some should sound a bit like Cosmogramma? I don't know. I DO know he has been playing a handful of these songs live for the last two years, often mixed with Cosmogramma tracks, and my brain is connecting the songs to Cosmogramma in that way.

Yes. Agreed 100%. Cosmogramma was so very flashy in a lot of ways, it's nice to not get continually bowled over by unrelenting brilliance this time around.

He'll add LA cd release show after Hollywood Bowl w/ Animal Collective (god he's gonna blow An Co away! someone tape his set please ). Probably add another NYC show as well when he comes over here next month. Then he'll tour everywhere else next year

^Yeah. No hostility whatsoever, I fucking love Cosmogramma. It was intended to be a showcase of his capabilities as an arranger & producer and he succeeded marvelously. After such a profound musical statement, it's nice to hear him a bit more restrained. No hate at all, haha, Steve's my boy.

My biggest pet peeve with this album is the profound lack of a track I first heard on the 10 Years of FlyLo Podcast. He often throws the I Feel Like Dying vocals over half of it before mixing in that song completely. Goddamnit. Greg knows which track I mean.

But at least we finally got Sultan's Request.

I tried to listen to the first song of the vinyl rip but decided to wait until I get a proper CDQ rip to listen to the rest. The white noise in the background, however quiet/insignificant it may be, was just a little too distracting. Usually such things don't bother me, but for an album like this I think it is necessary to wait. If anyone has a CDQ rip already please hit me up!

It's also possible that I'm just crazy and imagining/hearing things. Either way...

Yeah, I listened once last night, now I'm going back to waiting. Was impressed though. Sultan's Request is the early favorite.

Just like Cosmogramma, this needs to be enjoyed/listened to as an album, front to back. I really enjoy his effort to make a unified piece of work.
