Default It's raining middle aged punk rockers

Tony Sly, guitarist and singer for pop-punk band No Use for a Name, has died at the age of 41.

In a statement released by the bands record label, Fat Wreck Chords, no cause of death was given: “It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye to Tony Sly of No Use For A Name. We received a call earlier today of his passing, and are devastated. We have lost an incredible talent, friend, and father – one of the true greats.”

NOFX frontman and Fat Wreck Chord owner “Fat Mike” Burkett added, “One of my dearest friends and favorite song writers has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”

Sly joined No Use for a Name in 1989 and released nine full length albums with the band, in addition to a pair of acoustic solo albums and two split albums released with Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape.

Bummer, one of my favorite bands as a teen in the mid 90's, saw so many fun shows with them on the bill. was great to see chris move up to foo fighters back in the day, hadn't really listened to them at all since then, though.

Isn't the average death age for men around 80?

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

The first time I saw No Use for a Name I was 15 years old and we had to catch a ride from our friend's older sister and her girlfriend. These chicks were bangin' groupies. They must have been about 20/21 years old and I think one of them went to high school with one of the band members. Anyways, they were totally blasting Stevie Nicks in the tape deck while singing along to every lyric. I vivdly remember their wild antics during "Stand Back". Their hair was blown out with Aquanet (80's style) and their shirts hung off their shoulders exposing their bras. Damn, if I only knew then what I know.

    RIP, dogg.

From Wikipedia... (Don't you hate it when someone pulls up wikipedia just to show you you're wrong? F%$% A-holes)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_age

According to Collins Dictionary, this is "... usually considered to occur approximately between the ages of 40 and 60". The current edition of the Oxford English Dictionary gives a similar definition but with a shorter span: "The period of life between young adulthood and old age, now usually regarded as between about forty-five and sixty." The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, while prominent psychologist Erik Erikson sees it ending a little later and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65.

But yeah, No use for a name was one of the bands that I grew up listening to during the 90s. I lived in a crappy Texas town and we didn't get that many shows but I did got to see them a few time. Bummer.

wow that sucks. pop-punk was never really my thing but they were one of the better bands in the genre and imo never really got the credit they deserved. saw them open a few times, nothing but good memories.
