Fantasy football makes watching football more exciting. You watch teams you would never normally watch just to root for your players, making Sundays the most exciting day of the week.

What if you like watching those teams just because you're a football fan?

I'm not playing fantasy football this year, and I couldn't be happier. It's annoying, though, when I go out to watch the games. Instead of talking football, everyone wants to talk about their fantasy teams. Like I give a fuck if that person needs Matt Forte to score a touchdown. Rattling off a fantasy football lineup to someone is about the lowest form of communication.

You should try going to games in person, it might help you understand a different perspective.

I agree with all of this, and I still love fantasy football. It's absurd, and indefensible on many levels, and it's become a disgrace that media outlets are beginning to report football statistics in terms of FF points. But it's a lot of fun. It's also nice to wake up in the morning and read a news item that doesn't make me want to cut kill myself, or others. I encounter enough of reality on a daily basis. Sometimes fantasy is a good thing.

I get the argument for both sides of Fantasy. Truthfully I probably wouldn't do it if I wasn't in a couple leagues with friends that have been doing it for 4 years now. At this point it's pretty much expected of us to keep doing it, considering one league is only 10 and the other is 20 buy in.

I get both sides as well. Our country's obsession in fantasy is everywhere and ridiculous. For me though I watch games I otherwise would not give a shit about. Even divisional opponents (NFC West) or regional opponents (Raiders) I wouldn't give a shit about watching, unless it was either my 49ers or I had a fantasy stake in it.

I've been to several 49ers games, and yes tailgaiting is fun and the entire stadium experience is fun... but in my opinion, watching a football game in person is probably my least favorite out of the 4 majors. And that's saying a lot because I hate basketball. Obviously I'd like to go to a football game or 2 a year. But watching football on TV vs watching in person is WAY different than say watching hockey in TV vs watching it in person. Sure there are still timeouts and stoppages of play in hockey and baseball is what it is, but fuck, on TV you don't realize how much not-playing-football happens at a football game until you're actually there in person.

My point to all that being that if a fantasy-hater were to accuse me of only enjoying the fantasy when there are actual real-life games to go to, well, honestly 9 times out of ten I'd rather be at a man cave or sports bar with my friends and surrounded by flat screens of all the games, rather than be at an actual football game. Now hockey and baseball, that's another matter. Don't do fantasy for either and I go to actual games very very often. May give fantasy a shot for baseball/hockey eventually though.

But back to the fantasy thing, as Wes said, who gives a fuck about the other side if you're on one or the other.

I agree, I've been to a few football games in person, but overall I do think Football is a much better TV sport

The beauty of fantasy is knowing the league's elite players better than your competitor. Predictions, drafting appropriately, hunches. It's a knowledge and understanding thing and a celebration of the individuals on their own merits.

Yeah... good thing I had a backup plan in mind when I also took Tony Gonzalez. Didn't bail me out last week, but it just might going forward.

Arizona isn't exaclty a gateway to fantasy considering Cardinals players owned in our league have a combined total of 7.6 fantasy points so far.

Anquan Boldin. For me I typically like to play the best WR regardless of match ups.

Hartline is going against Revis or Cro so either way he's not doing shit this week, Hill is unproven and I don't trust him, don't trust Moore either (especially against Pittsburgh's secondary).

Although Boldin is getting older, and frankly having a hard time separating from defenders at this point, he's a proven vet and has the best QB throwing him the ball of all of the above. So go with Boldin.

While this didn't happen to me, I know a couple different friends in a few different leagues that had the Green Bay DST tonight and lost by a few points instead of winning by a few points because of that call tonight.

So in one of my leagues Joe Flacco was dropped from a team. Now my starting QB is Rodgers but my back up is Russell Wilson. I have the first Waiver number so is Flacco worth losing it on or should I just pick up a Locker, Palmer, Luck, Dalton type for my back up QB?

I'd look at all of those qb match-ups on Rodgers' bye week.

I think it's worth picking up Flacco, at the very least to deny someone else from picking him up. I mean the Ravens play some pretty weak Ds later in the season. (the Browns and Bengals again, who he scored 20+ pts against each team already once this year)

Best case scenario, you have an option when Rodgers is facing a troublesome matchup and/or the injury bug bites.
