my SS Coachella Bahamas pictures and stuff

i'm still sorting through the pictures from my trip to the Bahamas on the SS Coachella. i did something different this time. i made a slide show of the pictures i intend on posting for Day 1. The resolution is crummier, but it was easy to do, so:



Pictures will be put up the traditional way as well at some point.

A lot of suites has verandas. It was great and we had breakfast on it a couple of times.

Walking around the first day before departure i saw a lot of people performing on the boat. It was a bit crowded by the bar to take pics. When i broke free, saw Killer Mike, El P and friends.

Everyone on the boat had to go to a safety meeting to learn how to get on these.

Numbers in the inside of your door let you know where your meeting place is. Our's was in this restaurant.

This is club Quasar by the main theater. One of the many places people would play tunes.


Never far from a bar.


The elevators were a major part of the trip. You could run into someone playing on the boat or just get that minor connection with fellow passengers.


Decked out for the holidays.


If you wanted to gamble, you had the option.


The line to get into the Silhouette Theater before Yeasayer. i went to dinner with my girl and we ended up catching only the last couple of songs. Should have allocated more time for dinner, but it was fun. No pics of dinner because i have to put the camera down sometimes.


End of Yeasayer.


The drink packages were in full effect. For around $52 a day, drinks under $12 were yours when you wanted. Turned out to be a great deal for everyone as far as i could tell.

Great photos. Too bad you couldn't do the Jamaica cruise. The extra day felt essential and we also had more surprise activities like the Jarvis lecture and karaoke.

And yes, it was very special. So easy and so much to see and do, and the crowd size was perfect. Well, not perfect for GV, but the intimacy was priceless. Good luck not running into all the people you met.

Those are awesome. After looking at those, i am ashamed to have not been familiar with the photographer, Greg Cristman. This guy is becoming one of my new heroes. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Crispin. i hope i captured the vibe, but i know i missed capturing so much. Like all Coachellas, i wish there was another me. It was special and i also wish you could have been there to enjoy it. i feel very fortunate to have been on that first cruise.

my girl had a cloud of sadness over her when she heard about the Jarvis lecture. She's a huge fan (but i tell her you are number 1 in that book). we could only get in the first leg of the trip and were sooo sad to leave the Silhouette. i did have a legitimate fear staying on the boat for both trips would prompt my stomach to explode at the midway point the 2nd journey.

Here's a few from the end of my Day 1 with Cloud Nothings. Loved them. The sound was clean and loud. Hope they will be at the Polo Fields:

This is the library. If you wanted your peace in a quieter and more isolated fashion, many spots could be found. Being only a few minutes from your room was a pleasure the whole experience.




Quick stop by the Buffet before the show. Leaving the buffet we encounter Jarvis for the first time as he and friends are walking in. we get to tell him how awesome the show was.

My room was down the hall from the hideaway. Never made it to the library, unfortunately.

I went the RV route at Sasquatch, which was heavenly compared to camping but still a couple miles walk away, much of which was uphill. At ATP I was just four blocks down the street, and at Primavera I was at a hostel 5 minutes away from a subway, and as much as I thought all these spoiled me, nothing compares to getting from my room after a nap and shower to the Sky Lounge or buffet in three minutes.

Yes. we had brief encounters with Jarvis a couple of times (buffet and the James Murphy dj set) and James Murphy at the wine tasting. Pretty much anyone that was playing on the boat i walked by at certain points. Be scooting through people at one of the bars and there was Alexis from Hot Chip. Walking to see a show and Black Lips were hanging in some lawn chairs. Get in an elevator and there's Grimes. Do i have pictures? Not really unless they were unintentionally in the backgrounds of wide shots. Of course i got pictures of my girl with Jarvis and James. Reading what other people have written, most had friendly encounters.

Wow that sounds pretty surreal. Jarvis, James and Grimes? I was unware that it was such a down to earth environment. I'll definitely have to consider attending next year. Thanks for the sharing your experience.
