I think I saw in one of the track and field qualifiers that a Northern Ireland competitor was representing Ireland instead of Great Britain. I don't know if that is why, but since it is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland," maybe they want to distinguish those representing Great Britain against the Northern Irish who are representing Ireland.

I dunno about removing it completely, but I agree with your sentiment. I switched over to CNBC and caught most of the match. Utter BS. Loved how the Italian guy was trying to pump up the crowd at the end and, instead, they booed. Brits are no chumps.

The Olympics are just some european nobility view of what sports should be, rather than what sports really are. Baseball isn't in the olympics any more. Rugby. Cricket. Squash. These are international sports with considerable followings that are excluded. Meanwhile, we have sailing, fencing, rowing, shooting and dressage. Fuck that. Fuck kowtowing to some vicecount's 19th century idea of what constitutes sports.
