I feel like the Spirit Cockroach is vastly underrepresented in the current catalog of contemporary "guitar and drum" music. Theklein, is there a particular album that unleashes your Spirit Cockroach? What is it?

Don't really listen to any of those, so not sure. Really only went to hatebreed because my sis wanted to go and it sounded like a fun thing to do Halloween night.

My Morning Jacket - Z
Epic to say the least. I didn't find the vocals all that strong, but the instrumentals and production made up for it. Album definitely has a strong push in the beginning. Gideon is a great track. Then the pace slows down for a couple songs but after Anyways, which was my favorite track, things pick back up and we get a powerful guitar ballad in Lay Low. Finally a big finish with the almighty Dondante. Sites call this album MMJ's Ok Computer. Also, I did feel a spiritual animal in this one, a whale.
My rating: 8.25
Who are the MMJ experts in here?
Really like the precision of the 8.25. Squeezed it right in between Wonky and Remain in Light.
Z is fucking awesome. I love it more every listen and there have been many of those. Stoked you like them. Their drummer said "Bears are our spirit animal guides. They make sure we're going in the right direction." Owls would also be an acceptable answer.
You should listen to It Still Moves now. It's their best album easily, just not as approachable as Z is so I don't tell people to listen to it first.
Did you queue up Peter Gabriel's fourth album (Security) for review as requested earlier? Make sure and pump it up a bit on your speakers since the compression on that one is fairly low.
Tycho| Coachella 2013| Austin Psych Fest| Psycho de Mayo| Tame Impala| Black Rebel Motorcycle Club| Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers| David Byrne & St Vincent| Capitol Hill Block Party| Godspeed You! Black Emperor| Godspeed You! Black Emperor| Devotchka| The National| FYF Fest
He made a google doc that shows the queued albums.
EDIT: Peter Gabriel is 2nd in line. Review should be coming tomorrow.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Interesting album. When I pressed play I got a little concerned because I thought a file of Pac-man opened. Within a few moments everything made sense. As i was listening Strawberry Jam I was impressed how they made all the experimental components gel together. A couple songs were a little overboard, but I liked Cuckoo, Cuckoo best because I liked the binary opposition of the heavy guitar riffs and piano . This album is definetly the tale of a caterpillar who builds a cocoon, gets trapped in it while experiencing a series of emotions, and after struggling to get out; finally comes out as a butterfly and floats away.
My rating: 7.5

Awesome how this thread started out as what seemed to be a troll attempt, but has turned out legit.

You don't know what's in store, but you know what you're here for . . . Even though, you don't roll, trust me girl, you wanna be high for this.
Yeah. I took this on as a challenge, and I will give the board what they want, unlike our government lol. Hopefully we get some new music reviews in here soon. Requests will probably reopen tomorrow
Peter Gabriel - Security
The album cover is interesting, it clearly was the inspiration behind the formation of the Blue Man Group. I liked his vocals and the first 3 songs were really great. Anyways I dig what Peter Gabriel did in his 4th record but there were some negatives. The production was a little below average; however the drums in the record were executed well. None of the songs really stood out to me. Shock the Monkey is fun but the lyrics are pretty childish. The Family and the Fishing Net was the biggest snoozer.
My rating: 6
Scott Walker - The Drifts
Without a doubt the most interesting album suggested so far. Credit goes to Boourns. This album left me just thinking wtf. So much suspense which ended up with me scared at times and turning down the volume so I wouldn't jump. Amazing production though, I read up on what went into it. Yeah that was a creepy album. I probably would not listen to it again, plus the Walker's voice sounded like a ghost howling, which kinda bored me, except those times when out of nowhere the music gets really loud and you feel like shit is gonna go down. Though this music is not for me i still recommend to check it out if you're in for a scare
My rating: 5
