Gwar - Scumdogs of the Universe
I've never really been a fan of thrash metal. I've known about Gwar but never listened to them because their costumes intimidate me, trying to outdo Kiss it appears. However Gwar's sophomore album was pretty good and most the songs are catchy. The lyrics amuse me because of how gruesome they get. Problem for me is that the guitar rhythms in a lot of the songs sound similar, but at least songs like Sexicutioner make it identifiable because of the distinguishable lyrics. This is a good album to put on if you're in a good mood or looking to murder someone.

I'd really like to see your take on some original dancehall reggae with the first real lead female in the movement.

    Sunn O))) - Black One

Sorry I just don't understand this one. Extremely dark ambient sounds. Would make one depressing funeral. I thought I was caught in a storm. It felt like the same sounds were getting played over and over. I'll need some help understanding how this album was a hit with the critics.

    Monsieur Gainsbourg - Revisited
The first tribute album I've had to review. I saw Franz Ferdinand in the tracklisting and got unexcited, but the irony is that was probably my favorite song. I still don't know anything about Serge Gainsbourg, so I wasn't able to appreciate this album to its full extent. Well anyways Franz Ferdinand was good, Cat Power was cool, Portishead was great. I rated each song individually and took its average to get my rating since I can't go about my usual approach. This was a good suggestion.

    My rating: 7.9

Also this is another song I really like from Gainsburg repertoire.

In both instances here, I'd say you should reconsider. First, PJ Harvey is very different from release to release, so if all you've heard was Let England Shake, that's not at all representative of the sound on Rid of Me, which you'll enjoy.

Second, Lauryn Hill now and Lauryn Hill then are two very different prospects.

Alright cool, I've only heard a few PJ Harvey songs from the 90s but I'll check out her albums since I know you know your stuff bmack.
As for Lauryn Hill, I'm just not into R & B. On top of that, seeing her perform the same day as RATM was just a turnoff for me

I'll second the Rid of Me recommendation for PJ Harvey. That was the first release of hers that really sunk in for me.

Going into this with pre-formed prejudices isn't going to get you anywhere. If you're serious about exposing yourself to new sounds, getting as full a spectrum of musical genres as possible is key.

In that spirit, please review Underground Resistance - Interstellar Fugitives. This is not a joke request.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Here
Favorite song happened to be the last track All Wash Out. Overall I wasn't too impressed and found the album to be simple. It's a very calm and chill album to listen to but easily forgettable.

    Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music
Great pick by ods.. Great collaboration between Killer Mike and El-P because the production that went into this album sounded great. I liked the beats and Killer Mike has some great vocals. The lyrics can get very political, especially in Reagan. "I'm glad Reagan dead" was pretty random. If you're looking for the next big rap album this is probably it. I'm adding this to my top albums of 2012
