it would be very depressing to see The Smiths reunite and get a spot like the Buzzcocks got or something. Even seeing them sub in a Pulp slot would be sad. If they were to reunite I would only want them as a headliner or a slot like Refused got.
Regardless of demographic shifts and increasingly tarnished legacies, The Smiths would be a headliner, no question. Of course, there's also no point in it happening at Coachella since the fans would be shit out of luck getting into an event that sold so many (how many, exactly?) passes in a blind pre-sale.

Yea, I shot down the potential by revealing that The Smiths are irrevalent to the majority of Coachella patrons in this day and age. Sorry. I'll take all the blame.

I guess it was too good to be true. From Slicing Up Eyeballs:
An interview in which Morrissey seemed to confirm plans to retire in 2014 made a lot of noise online last week, but the singer today came out and discounted such rumors, providing a statement to fansite True To You that says, “Morrissey would like to stress that reports of his ‘retirement,’ as excitably earmarked by several newspapers and websites, are ‘wishful thinking’ on behalf of the writers.”
In an interview with MSN’s Juice, Moz was asked if he still plans on retiring at age 55. He replied: “Yes. I am slightly shocked to have gone as far as I have. This is my 30th year, and I’ve aged a lot recently, which is bit distressing for me, as it must be for everyone. The body changes shape and there’s nothing you can do about it. Do I continue as a modern day Andy Williams? I take one hour at a time. We will all probably be blown up by the Syrian government soon, anyway, so it hardly matters in the great scheme of things.”
Interestingly, Morrissey has not released any kind of statement regarding the NME’s public apology to him Tuesday over the 2007 article at the heart of the singer’s libel lawsuit against the weekly music magazine. An NME spokesman has suggested to The Guardian that the case is now over: “The settlement with Morrissey does not involve payment of any damages or legal costs (other than a small sum of costs which the court ordered NME to pay last year when we applied unsuccessfully to have the case struck out on grounds of delay).”

Is Moz playing AFTER Iggy & Stooges at Staples Center?
Tough act to follow - I wouldn't want the job of crowd control near the stage that night.
I'll be there at Staples.
