I was hoping that big blurry glare was concealing Superchunk. Thanks for posting. Great stuff this year.

lol, that's just my own personal itinerary, caeden.

Hannah, what are your recommendations? There's a lot on here that I am unfamiliar with.

Also - I'm still confused by Alt-J at Crystal Ballroom on the 3rd.. but it's not part of MFNW? That's kinda lame. Also Adam Ant is playing Roseland and he's not on the poster either.

That Alt-J show was announced several months ago, even before they played their April Roseland show. Tuesday at the Crystal Ballroom has never been a part of MusicfestNW, neither has Sunday at the Roseland (Adam Ant). Too bad Alt-J's Crystal Ballroom opener Lord Huron isn't sticking around to play the festival. They are about 34 times better live than Alt-J. There was a VIP pre-funk a couple years ago at the Wonder Ballroom, so that might be why they are listing the festival starting on Tuesday.

Godspeed is playing Friday and Saturday night. Seeing Animal Collective at the Square Friday, then wandering over the Godspeed? That is a great night.

Young the Giant I believe is the Sunday headliner. Sunday always conflicts with week one of the NFL, so getting to the square at a reasonable level of intoxication is nearly impossible.

The openers at the Roseland and Crystal Ballroom should be announced tomorrow.

It looks like my "exclusive" presale link will work just fine for anybody else. $10 off, and can purchase right now if desired.

    PW is "INSIDER"

Ticket acquired. I went for All Show this year. I want to see both AC and Neko, and find that I often miss out on undercard bands because they're at Pioneer with a headliner I didn't choose. Hopefully it turns out to be worth it.

Edit: it also looks like a few things were added after the launch poster was printed:

Decent lineup for Musicfest NW, but Young the Giant as the top-listed name on any poster is a huge eyesore.

Oh and it's $10 off, but then a $10 ticket fee, lol.

I figured they'd be together there, but I'm not too worried about time overlap since the Pioneer shows are always so much earlier than the others.

Oh wait, the 8th is Sunday. I'm not worried about time overlap at all, then. Good thing I'm the only person in town who actually likes the Roseland.

Confused how this thing works, can you buy tickets to the individual shows or can you only get in with a wristband? I'd like to see Baroness (they are playing Thursday according to their website) but don't want to buy a wristband just to see them.

Some shows have individual tickets and it's generally possible to get to a show way, way early and get a paid ticket, but most of the entrance capacity is reserved for people with passes to the festival and not all the venues offer any other possibilities for entrance. When the rest of the schedule goes up, hopefully the rest of the ticketing info will too.

That's not entirely true. You can buy tickets to the main venues like you would any other non-MusicfestNW show. They go on sale Friday at 10 am. For example, if you only want to see Deerhunter, Godspeed twice, and Animal Collective, you can try to score tickets to each event, and only pay a couple bucks more than if you bought the wristband + Animal Collective ticket for $90. The difference is a hard ticket guarantees you entrance, but a wristband only guarantees you no entree fee. You'll have to show up early to get in.

I don't think all the venues offered paid tickets last year. And yes, capacity is limited overall, but that's the case with any general admission multi-venue event. The question was specifically about non-wristband holders, so wristband procedure is sort of irrelevant.

Not to split hairs here, but your reply indicated you could show up early to a venue and buy a ticket. I was pointing out you can buy a ticket to a lot of the venues three months before the festival. I also am one of the few who love the Roseland, so we're on the same team here.

And to more specifically address GBVfan's question, you don't need to purchase a wristband to only see Baroness. They played Dante's a couple years ago during MusicFestNW for free. If they end up opening for someone really popular, and the regular tickets are sold out, a wristband might be your only option.

Point being, don't pay for a wristband to only see one (or four) band(s). Wait for the schedule, then figure it out. If you want to see a bunch of music, get the wristband.

Ah, sorry. Didn't realize you were making a distinction between early online purchasing and in-person purchasing with "just like you would...etc." I thought you were disagreeing with my answer because I didn't include something not relevant to the question. Still, though, I'm not sure every venue has always offered tickets alongside wristband admissions, and there have definitely been a few cases where the only opportunity to purchase hard tickets was to show up in person. I remember a few folks wanting to visit me in '10 for shows they hadn't been able to get tickets for in advance and deciding against it when the venue couldn't guarantee that they'd be available DOS.

Got burned on this last year for multiple shows. Wristband doesn't guarantee entrance at all. It does guarantee you the opportunity to stand in line and hope while missing half or all of the only shows worth seeing.

Can you (or someone else) clarify this a little bit? Which shows were you not able to get into? How early do you generally have to show up to get in?

I'm thinking about driving down this year, and am specifically interested in seeing:
    Animal Collective
    Superchunk/Titus Andronicus
    Charles Bradley
    Chvrches
    Godspeed/Earth
    Deerhunter
    The Thermals
    Surfer Blood
    Mt. Eerie

So should I just go for the GA wristband + Animal Collective, or is this similar to a Hopscotch Fest situation where you really need VIP if you want to venue-hop around to 3+ different shows in a night?

This may not be helpful, but I have never had a problem getting in to shows with just a regular wristband, and haven't waited in any long lines. I think if you show up to a venue soon after doors open, you'll be just fine.
As far as venue-hopping goes, I'd be impressed and surprised if you managed to make it to 3+ venues and have the schedule work in your favor. Granted, I usually just go to one show a night.. the most I've ever done was 2 venues in one night.

    Anyhow, you should come Courtney!

Follow-up question: What is the transportation time like between venues? And is it walkable/bikeable/public transportation-able?

Transportation is the easiest time you will ever have.

And I agree with clumsy that it really isn't a problem getting in with a wristband to nearly any show. There are shows that go on at 4pm and there are shows that go on at midnight or later in local small bars. The wristband covers them all, prices of shows range from $5 cover to enter a bar to $30 for the pioneer shows. The venue at Pioneer is pretty fun, might get a ticket to see Young the Giant or Animal Collective.
