Coachella 2011 2012 and soon to be 2013
Coachella 2011 2012 and soon to be 2013
They are playing Lollapalooza Chile on 4/6/13 and nothing after that....are they headlining?

1. agreed. whether people are fan of PJ or not, this is true.
2. bands don't really need to be a major draw, in my opinion. if anything, coachella gives them that "bump." the black keys was playing medium sized venues when they sub-headlined and began to sell out arenas after they headlined. i honestly did not think that the killers were worthy of headlining, and they did. coachella is going to sell out regardless of who's headlining. it's become that type of event.
3. agreed. they're known for their endless sets.
4. great point. even more reason.
5. PJ releases albums every other year. In their 20 year career, they've released 9 albums (and are about to release one sometime this year).
6. i would totally welcome them.

Other than the 20th anniversary blah blah, your entire argument is based on facts (stipulated, for now) that were equally true in 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008, etc etc. And yet PJ did not play those years. So, the only real differentiator is this 20th anniversary thing, which really seems more like wishful thinking on your part than anything compelling.
So, it probably ain't gonna happen.
The fact that they're randomly playing 3 festivals a few weeks before Coachella doesnt hurt the speculation.....

they are teasing an announcement on twitter with the hastag #staytuned

I wish this could come true! Reminiscing about my Seattle grunge days...sigh

I am beginning to think GV hates PJ or something. I have pretty much given up on them playing here, ever.
Let's go on a livin' spree!
This makes tons of sense...Pearl Jam is gonna tour in the summer of 2013 - playing ballparks or some shit...but this will be the best way to roll into that tour with a ton of steam.
Now that the Stones are out, this only makes sense.
Janelle Monae, Spiritualized, Loco Dice, Cloud Nothings, Paul Kalkbrenner, Blur, El-P, Kurt Vile, Nick Cave, Sigur Ros, Moby, Grizzly Bear, The Shouting Matches, Four Tet, Modest Mouse, Japandroids, Savages, Jessie Ware, Booka Shade.
Hey DaFunk! Shout out to Durango, CO.... spent New Years eve there last year and its an amazing town.

I'd rather have Soundgarden. Or Screaming Trees. Your mileage may vary.
