I think Against ME! is the most out of place band on the list. And don't get me wrong, they're a great band. I'm all about going to a great punk rock show, but it's COACHELLA, completely different vibe.
Portishead in 2007.
I have attended every year.
Against me! is from Gainesville and started out in the late 90s/early 00's as an accoustic folk punk act. It was just a guy with a trashy accoustic guitar with broken strings and a drummer bangin on trash cans opening for local punk rock acts around the country. After getting a full touring line up and releasing plenty of terribly recorded demos they made their first debut "Reinventing Axl Rose." It was different from most new punk because of its folky nature mixed with drunk anthem sing-a-longs.
Their second album "As the Eternal Cowboy" was released on Fat Wreck Chords and seemed to disappoint hardcore fans because if its shiny recording. It still, however, was full of amazing drunk punk folk anthems. Their newest album "Searching for a former clarity" has actual music videos for songs like "Don't Lose Touch" and although some people I know wanna yell sell out!, dont listen because they will always kick ass.
The crazy thing about them being at Coachella is that I saw them 3 years ago in a tiny venue(cap. 200) with about 40 other people drunkingly moshing and falling all over each other. Now they will rock the Mojave!
So get good and sauced and join us for their to be amazing Coachella set. If you wanna download any songs I suggest "We Laugh at Danger and Break all the Rules", "Reinventing Axl Rose", "Cliche Guera", or "Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners"
Sorry to ramble..I had no intention of going on that long I'm just quite excited about this.
I think Against me is as out of place as thrice was last year... its really not that big of a deal.
and thrice did very well.
Against me is kind of a strange add. But they aren't really traditional punk rock at all. Their latest album was a big disappoint for me (although I dug Eternal Cowboy), but I hope for an upturn when their new record comes in march.
Best of all they put on a great show.
This will be the best performance of the whole three days.
From what I've heard, they sound like fun.
The are so honest when they play it is fascinating.
Don't forget your white belt and cool haircut.
+100 scene points.
The white belt is only cool if it's from Hot Topic, duH!!
I am 31 years old and have all the "scene points" I could ever need.
But thanks anyway.
pfffffft... Fountains of Wayne
