Default Reason for the price increase?

Working on two reasons, which both make sense to me...

    1) They want to book a band with a very high price...
    2) They're making up the money from purchasing the polo fields.

    It's probably #2...

Or probably just the fact that everything gets more expensive over time. $13 is hardly a significant jump on a $300+ order.

There's also such thing as inflation. Also, the area of Indio, etc seems to be demanding more each year.

I'm not complaining over the increase, I don't care.

I'm just thinking of the reason. They did just purchase the Polo fields, so they'd be out a considerable amount.

Their purchase of the polo grounds (Eldorado only, not Empire) has nothing to do with it. That investment will be realized over a future period probably driven by cost savings or other forms of revenue, not solely an increase in ticket prices. Real estate purchases such as that aren't going to be break even either - they will want a return on their investment, not just to internalize a cost, unless the savings will really provide them that substantial of a return. They'll get revenues for that land in other times during the year as well.

Like NC mentioned above, since they haven't raised prices in what, 5 years, they are needing to catch up. Everybody's salaries at GV I'm sure have increased >8% over the last 5 years. So has the cost of goods and other services.

My guess is just an inflationary increase, and not solely an opportunistic or one that is driven by Eldorado.

Because their fees to the city have increased by about $1.3 million.

That totally justifies the extra 9 million, if it's true. Not.

I saw the Stone Roses on the way to Coachella last year.

Actually, no. That was a different car crash.

So they need to reconcile? Are you suggesting there is no cushion in the excess revenues they are collecting? They need to justify the increase with specific costs? You can't be that ignorant.

They could also decide to increase prices because they know they can. Goldenvoice is a business, so no need to be surprised when they try to profit as much as demand allows.

Yeah seeing two weekends sell out in a matter of hours probably just looked like money lost to a lot of people in GV

True, there's no need to leave money on the table, but they also know that festival goers are fickle and you can't be a greedy fuck in this business. There will come a day that Coachella will be like Friendster.

They don't owe any of you an explanation. If you don't want to pay it, don't pay it.

Show me your math. If the ticket prices are $30 higher than the presale prices last year and $13 higher than the regular onsale prices, and they sell, let's say 85,000 tickets each weekend....$30 * 170,000 = $5.1 million. Where the fuck is $9 million coming from? And the fee increases to the city are true. All you have to do is look at the contract.

Perhaps that includes the increase in camping prices? Even if it does include that, I don't think you're hitting that 9 million figure. Perhaps I am wrong though and I don't feel like doing the brief math required to figure it out.

Actually, the car camping pass + fees for 2012 equaled $85, so there's no increase.

So more of a reason to strike while the iron is hot. When the festival does go south, they can go out with a huge clusterfuck bang like Street Scene did in 2009.

I am generally terrified by ferris wheels, and the one this year was pretty lamesauce, to continue off-topic.
