If an extra forty bucks really breaks your bank than it's for the best because it sounds like you really couldn't afford to go to Coachella in the first place

There is some theoretical dead weight loss any time there is price / supply fixing happening to a product, but in this case, there wouldn't be any noticeable difference to us as the consumer. This is because demand already far outweighs supply, so any price fixing by GV that would actually cause dead weight loss would require them raising prices so high that they wouldn't sell out. Let's hope this never happens and let's all be very happy that tickets are only $349 ... there's no one here that honestly thinks that isn't worth it - except perhaps that Sonic fellow who will just be pissed off that SHM won't be there next year.

You can probably find more than $40 on the ground over the course of 332 days.

    haha good point.

I paid almost $400 this year for the shuttle pass combo anyway (didn't get presale, should have). $30-40 raise in 6 years isn't terrible. I can't say that "we haven't raised prices in six years..." makes it any better. Kind of makes it sound like it's just time to raise prices for the heck of it, even though we all know better. I'm just curious to what it's going towards like everyone else I guess.

Seriously, I was talking to one of the vendors at the merch tent and she was mortified and a little disgusted that she had to tell some shivering customer that her hoodie will now be ten dollars more. Just an example of how heartless this business can be

If really is just going towards lining their pockets, I will be disapointed. If it will be going towards the festival (expanding the grounds, better maintance of the grass, better EDM bookings, David Bowie, etc...) then I think the cost may be worth it.
Ironically, this will probably cost less than Sahara 2012.

my total through front gate for last year was $373 so $399 (shuttle and pass) isn't a huge increase, I guess

edit: but I have a serious moral issue with doing presale again after the fucking abysmal sahara tent of last year

Well then two cashiers constructed some pointless yet intricate lies to feed to random attendees browsing the merch tent. Probably could have been avoided with background checks

Sweet. They should probably double the price and it would still be less than $25 a band!! Charge me more please MOAR!

This is not a rumor. I saw the price change in front of me, being increased $10 for hoodies late in the evening on Friday.

I bet the price increase had more to do with the Trayvon Martin fad than the weather. Hoodies are a pretty hot item.

The hoodie thing definitely happened. If it wasn't official then the merch staff must have pocketed a tidy fortune.

LOL! I am glad someone can confirm that, I thought I saw the price change but doubted myself. Merch stands are usually ripe for anyone dishonest. All that cash, no receipts or cashier trace. They usually get rid of the cash by having someone they know buy something for $10 with a $20 bill, the cashier gives the person $90 change.

I honestly like the little things like the magazine and the Coachella box, etc. More water refill stations would be good, though.

Finally being honest? It's not like it was a fucking secret. It itemizes all the charges right in front of you when buy your pass. Idiot.
