    depends on what type of liquor soju is going against.

    I gotta say tho, when you drink soju, you think you are fine... but when it hits... "oh boy!"

    Last years soju and redbull @ coachella didn't do crap but empty my pockets. So I'm either an alcoholic or that stuff doesn't work. How about some Vodka this year cause beer sucks!

    no. People actually say that sake is wine.

    Soju, although made with rice too, also combines other stuff like barley, potato, tapioca... Most people compare soju (or at least the taste of it) to vodka but only sweeter.

    Korean places like to mix soju with like lemonade or something sweet like those yogurt drinks.

    we have soju and sake. i couldnt remember if there was a difference.
    we got to taste them all. one tasted like watered down vodka, one tasted like wine, and one tasted like man sweat - dont ask.

    soju = watered down vodka

    sake = wine

    sake has a lot of different grades of sake. They can run as little under $10 per bottle to like $60-70.

    You are supposed to drink good sake cold. By having hot sake, you hide the crappy sake taste.

    Good sake is actually very enjoyable.

    I'll second that. When I was in Korea, I had a bunch of that, coupled with Oscar (a kind of sparkling wine -very cheap). But, I had a hell of a lot of shots. I woke up the next morning on the floor of some hotel room and didn't know where the hell I was. Ahhhhh, to be young again...

    yeah never heard of soju in america, but in korea it's like nothing else. get wasted on it and you don't stand a chance of remembering what the hell happened the night before. i'm guessing buying it here is like taking herbal extacy compared to taking real x from what you guys are saying. It doesn't take a whole lot either so if you spent a bunch of money on it it surely isn't the good stuff.

    soju has a vodka sorta taste but it's got embombing fluid (sp.?) in it. That's what get's u ripped.

    Soju is annoying. They serve it here in LA when places can't get a license to serve hard liquor. It's totally not the same.

    Oh, but for the record, our very own board member SojuGorae is awesome

    Coachella sells soju? That's beautiful. I'm assuming you can get it mixed with juice instead of red bull at the beer garden?

    Yes, he seems like a pretty cool person. Has a great dry wit about him and always comes up with an awesome line. Also post some great pics. (like the one with the drunk guy)

    Soju is in no way wine-like. It is liquor, though usually 40 to 60 proof. My understanding is that the exemption that was made for soju sales under beer & wine licenses was intended to allow Korean restaurants to serve it. That bars are serving without a liquor license is just a manipulation of the law. Trust me, throwing back soju all night feels nothing like drinking beer all night.

    soju is usually around 21-23% alcohal depending on the brand, which makes it around 42-46 proof which classifies it as wine and beer. the alcohal percentage i believe to be classified as hard liquor is 24%. its not a manipulation of the law.

    I totally thought this thread was going to document, which pictures and drunken ranting, the battle between Board member SojuGorae and hard liquor.

    Korea is a big drinking country. Most employees go out drinking together very regularly. Soju is the drink. Not because its any good (though the taste is nicer than some vodkas) but because a 360ml bottle only runs one about $1.70 and is usually 20-23%. After finishing a bottle or two yourself you should be good to go and you've only spent $3-4. Maybe I'll bring some bottles from Korea to Coachella in a water bottle or four.

    How much do they chrage for Soju in the states? I've only experienced it here in Korea.

    the bottles at the restaurant i work at run from $9 to $24+
    ive never really drank them but the owner is always pushing them to our asian customers. they usually order about four bottles, pour them in a large vase and ask for cut cucumbers in it.

    Ohh, how I love soju. When I was in Korea I drank so much of that stuff. I would mostly do bombers with OB Lager or Cass (Korean beers) and they would go down very nicely. I've never had it mixed with anything else but I imagine it would go well with just about anything as it doesn't have much of a flavor. And the best part is that stuff is so cheap over there. About $2 for a decent sized bottle. I would pre-game in my hotel room with a bottle of soju and a 24oz beer and I'd be feelin just fine by the time I hit up the subway train to the bar.

    Good times.
