    Default It's raining Donald Duck

    RIP

Donald "Duck" Dunn, bassist for Booker T. and the MGs, most all the grits 'n' greens soul voices who emerged from Memphis' Stax Records in the 1960s, and dozens of major blues-rock-pop stars during his subsequent career as an LA-based studio musician, died in his sleep at age 70 in the early morning of May 13 while on tour in Japan with his guitarist partner and childhood friend Steve Cropper.

I grew up listening to Booker T and the MG's. My dad idolized Donald Dunn. I was very fond of him too.

My mistake. I usually only check the Music Lounge and Misc. Lounge before posting any "raining threads".

I lived in Palo Alto from 1955-1964. Is it still the same?

    FYI:

The Booker T and the M.G.s group was founded by Steve Cropper and Booker T. Jones in 1962. The original bassist, on early hits such as "Green Onions", was Lewie Steinberg; Dunn replaced him in 1964.
That may well have been Dunn in that video though, I can't tell.

    Lewie Steinberg is still alive.

That is definitely the Duck. I know the Duck. In my opinion and my dad's, Donald Dunn WAS the bassist for the MG's.

I don't know how it was back then, but I really enjoy living here. The Creamery is still in business...

Ronald C. "Pigpen" McKernan (September 8, 1945 – March 8, 1973) was a founding member of the Grateful Dead. He's buried in Palo Alto.
