I'll have my mix in the mail within the next four days, recipient, and I'll send you some extra stuff with it as a way of saying, 'sorry for being a procrastinating idiot.'
In the meantime, I received my mix from Dark justice, and i'll post a proper review after spinning it a few more times, but on first listen: It's good. thank you.
Mixtape receiver,
I am finishing my cover art as I speak and should have it in the mail tomorrow. I need to add my personal flair.![]()
I got it today and it was well worth the wait! I'll post a more thorough roundup of Originalbob's mix later in the week, and I also plan to head to the liquor store so I can make an "OB Old Fashion" or two (she included a drink recipe along with a short note) and enjoy her Cocktail Mix the way it should be listened to.

Mix report: nosurprises12’s “A Bunch of Jamaican Music Not Made By Bob Marley”
When I was debating whether or not to participate in this mix exchange, I decided to chat with Jason (nosurprises12) about It on facebook. He encouraged me to join in, so here I am. But in the process, he divulged some details on his mix; mainly that it would include Jamaican music, stuff like The Congos and so on. I made a remark that “I’m not really into that stuff”, and he joked “Well, hopefully I don’t get you, then!”
The beauty of this exchange, which I found out as soon as I popped his mix in my CD player, is that it can challenge your perceptions of music and expose you to something you never would have tried but end up loving. I saw the mix was from Jason, and with what he told me about it in mind, I decided to approach this with an open mind and give it a fair shake. Ended up finding the thing thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish; I was actually pretty into Bob Marley for a brief period in high school, but never looked any deeper into reggae or Jamaican music, so I’m glad this forced me to do so. Which brings me to the first photo and the next point:
Along with the theme of the exchange, Jason included this letter on holiday stationary. In it, he explains that he made a mix of Jamaican music not made by Bob Marley; but that calling it reggae wouldn’t really be appropriate. Rather it contains two distinct styles: “rocksteady (which is like 1960s R&B/Soul filtered through a Jamaican ‘lense’) and dub (essentially remixes, or ‘versions’ of existing tracks which focus on the ‘riddim’ and weave the other instruments/vocals in and out, along with other studio effects)”.
I don’t think I disliked a single song on this mix, and my favorites came from both the rocksteady and dub genres (incidentally, I have relatively recently been getting into dub techno, so this was a really cool compliment to that). I have played the mix over a half dozen times by now (so, yes, about time I posted a report!)
The packaging is really nice, with solid photo selection for the sleeve. Some photos:
Didn’t get a decent photo of the tracklist so here it is written out:
1. “Rocksteady” by Alton Ellis
2. “Swing and Dine” by the Melodians
3. “Rudy Got Soul” by Desmond Dekker
4. “This Life Makes Me Wonder” by Delroy Wilson
5. “54-46 Was My Number” by Toots & the Maytals
6. “Gypsy Man” by Marcia Griffiths
7. “The World is Upside Down” by Joe Higgs
8. “Stepping Razor” by Peter Tosh
9. “Fade Away” by Junior Byles
10. “Don’t Move” by Keith Hudson
11. “Natty Don’t Fear” by U-Roy
12. “False Rasta” by Jacob Miller
13. “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown” by Augustus Pablo
14. “Congoman” by the Congos
15. “Croaking Lizard” by The Upsetters
16. “Night of the Living Dead” by Scientist
17. “Draw Your Breaks” by Scotty
18. “Somebody’s Baby” by Pat Kelly
19. “Come on Now” by the Etheopians
20. “Loving Pauper” by Gregory Isaacs
21. “Fountain of Life (live)” by Jimmy Cliff
22. “My Conversation” by The Uniques
23. “Jah No Dread” by Burning Spear
My absolute favorite tracks were “Rocksteady” by Alton Ellis, “Rudy Got Soul” by Desmond Dekker, “Don’t Move” by Keith Hudson, “False Rasta” by Jacob Miller, “Congoman” by The Congos, “Night of the Living Dead” by Scientist, and “Fountain of Life” by Jimmy Cliff. “Congoman” and “Night of the Living Dead” were replaying in my head for a long time, really great jams.
Big thanks, Jason! I would encourage you to upload the mix to mediafire to share with everyone else

I'm so glad you enjoyed the mix Paul! The tracks by The Congos and Scientist are from two of the most revered dub albums of all time (Heart of the Congos and ...Rids The World of The Evil Curse of The Vampires, respectively), and I'd highly recommend tracking both of them down.

While I was in London, my mix sent by a certain super tall gentleman named Chris arrived. My laptop isn't having much luck in playing it, so I'll give it a spin later this evening. Looking quite forward to it!
I also realized that in my haste to get my shit together for my trip last week, I forgot to send my mix out. I've now done so with apologies for the lateness.
Tight! Post in here after you get it working and I'll post the tracklist.![]()

And again, my apologies about the lacking of a jewel case/packaging. I just hate being late on things, so I favored timeliness over detail (even though you were on vacation so it didn't even matter, haha!).

Alright, I've given up on my sender. Maybe I'll have Noir make me a mix...
Cutter, now is the time to call people out on their lack of participation.
OB, I'm terribly sorry about my lack of a write-up for your awesome mix - look out for it over the next day or two.

Thanks for the mix Icey. I'll write up a little review when I have a bit of time. My girlfriend and I both quite enjoyed it.
I have a feeling that stuporfly hated what I sent him. The theme for my mix this go round was "Great Songs by Bands that the Coachella Board Collectively Hate", not exactly the right fit for someone with as top notch taste as he has, lol.
