You send a mix in the mail to a board member.
You receive a mix in the mail from a board member.
You write about the mix you received in this thread. An acknowledgment is all that is needed.


If you cannot manage those things please do not sign up. There will other opportunities in the future

Your info will only be seen by myself and the board member sending you a mix, and then deleted once the round is over.

The sign up period will be from today July 2 - July 15. In this time you should be making your mix! Don't wait to find out who you're going to get and tailor it towards them (or you can but don't be late). Two weeks is plenty of time to sign up and make a mix, you can do it!

On July 16th I will contact everyone through email with who they will be sending their mix to. I would like you all to mail your mixes out by July 25th.

How long is the mix and what type of artists are allowed? Do we have to use our own mix, or can we copy one we already have?

just from the previous mix exchanges we've done you can make it however long you want, and include any artists. but, i do think we should use our own mix, which is the point of the exercise, and fun of it. i could be wrong, though.

And yeah you can pretty much do whatever you want but it should be a compilation you put together on your own. I really hope someone makes a cassette tape mix... No theme or anything. I'd like to do a "driving in the summertime" mix or the like for the next one.

While mixtapes were originally tapes which compiled people’s favourite songs together, the modern meaning is quite different. Mixtapes are now widely used as a tool for promoting a musician prior to a album or single release. They can also be used to raise awareness of a musician, keeping them in the public eye. » Although often sold, mixtapes are generally used as promotional products. They’re used to raise awareness of a given musician, sometimes before an album launch.

Yup, what you posted is the idea. It could be as simple as picking 20 songs you like that you want someone else to hear and then burning that playlist to a cd. People are just going to get creative with the cohesive theme of the songs selected, decorating a cd/jewel case, making liner notes among other things I haven't thought of.

Not that anyone should be discouraged from submitting if they don't want to get all arts and crafts-y. As long as a mix cd gets sent that all that is required and important

In past exchanges it has been much like the "original" definition you cite there. "tapes which compiled people's favorite songs together", except not actually tapes, but CDs. Some people mix them while others just put like an iTunes playlist and burn it to CD. They can be themed or themeless. The only requirement is that they sound good to you.

So you guys haven't been around here much, which matters not at all, but be aware of expectations: If you sign up for the mix exchange you should expect -- i.e., make concrete plans -- to send your mix on time, and to give the mix you receive a complete listen (or two), and then post comments about the mix you receive. If you don't send your mix you will be depriving someone. If you don't listen to or acknowledge a mix you receive, you're spoiling the fun. So this means even if you are a saharatard and receive a mix of nothing but 19th century appalachian yodels, you are expected to listen to it and report on it. capeche?
