Looks like The Shins are out. They're playing Harmony By The Bay on September 29 at the Shoreline.

And the Shins, Tegan and Sara, and Beats Antique should be counted out as they are playing the Harmony by the Bay Show at Shoreline in September. Thankfully, because the Shins are terrible live. I thought they were going to be a shoe-in since they played OSL last year (kinda like Empire of the Sun the year before).

Tegan and Sara have already played TIMF in 2008, so they wouldn't have been in the running to begin with. And The Shins suck live? I personally disagree, I think they were pretty awesome at both OSL 2011 and Coachella 2012, the sound at Coachella was definitely better, probably because it was pretty windy at OSL.

True, though that's an awfully small period of time in between shows.

That SMD December tour is crying out for a friday, 12/1 show in LA. Would-be 3 mos gap btw LA shows seems more plausible than would-be 1.5 mos gap btw SF shows.

SMD live will be at FYFest so they have LA covered, even if they don't make another appearance.

Yeah, I wasn't making a distinction between their live or dj sets, but it does seem like they are in SF every three months which I always thought was odd. I'll have to make it to one of their shows eventually, but it sounds like I need to go to a live one.

And I didn't like the Shins OSL performance but maybe that was because I was in the back where it just didn't sound good. But I saw them at Vegoose and it was a rather emotionless experience. Either way I really did not need to see them at TI.

Are we assuming that TI is still not going to have repeats?

SMD have really good live shows! And its always a really good mix of their discography.

I was pretty close up and a bit left of the stage for The Shins at OSL, and every now and then the wind would carry off the sound but for the most part it was good. I was close enough to make out some of James Mercer's facial expressions!

We are still under the assumption that TIMF will not repeat acts. They haven't repeated acts yet, and I doubt they would start now, but you never know.

The xx are playing the Fonda in Los Angeles in July (capacity under 1,000); the last couple years, Explosions and LCD were headliners after playing the Palladium (capacity 4,000). How does the xx headlining TI make sense again? Are they significantly bigger in SF than LA?

The xx are only playing the Fonda as a small show to play out the new material. It sold out instantly.
