I don't mean to belittle the merit of your "dream" list, as I'd be fine w/ something like that, but ...

is it just me, or does this board suffer from a massive amount of group think when it comes to "good" dance music it would like to see featured in the Sahara tent?

These wish lists always seem to feature the same big name artists. GV can and should do better. Having said that, even a minor improvement will be welcome.

Most of those acts are probably late night Mojave acts. That being said I just make the best of the situation and even this year I had a Blast at the sets I caught in the Sahara (Feed Me, Porter, Dada Life) The music wasn't the best but I still had a good time

I think it's a matter of people not quite on board yet with embracing full on dance music, and so they edge in on acts with more rock oriented elements. Which is fair, I started off that way, and it's hard to get into more straight up dance shit until you experience it properly (i.e. on a good sound system, with the right people, with a truly talented DJ on the decks, at the right venue and optionally, on the right chemicals). Until you've danced til dawn to some stripped down techno or house, it can be a little tough to swallow in recorded form, which is where most people get exposed to new kinds of musics. It's a shitty catch-22 and makes the lack of quality dance acts in the Sahara even more frustrating, as getting a classic Detroit or Ostgut Ton style DJ to play could be the thing to convert someone, but no one's going to book those because people don't realize that's what they want to hear yet.

And I'm fine with belittling his and most of these "dream" lists because they fucking suck. Chromeo? Loco Dice? Boys Noize (AGAIN?) 2ManyDJs (AGAIN?) The Presets (AGAIN?) Sasha (AGAIN?)

It's like most of these people have only ever heard dance music at Coachella or HARD or Insomniac. Their taste is narrow and shitty.

The Sahara has been a place where most of the djs play the same songs for the last few years, would love some Chris B or Lee Burridge to show up (Robot Heart set was one of my favorites this year). I just don't see the Sahara losing cheese house or Brostep anytime soon, kids are too into it. Unfortunately even though Josh has some decent picks in the dream list, Gue is correct about them being a little played out on the fields. Especially Chromeo and Hot chip

All of those names are played out to one degree or another ... in general, not only w/ respect to Coachella.

Part of me would rather they book the Avicii's of the world rather than the Loco Dice's. The former tells me GV is chiefly concerned w/ appeasing the muppets, the latter tells me they may be making an effort to satiate the appetites of a more refined musical palate but are hopelessly lost when it comes to identifying truly good dance music.

What scares me isn't the thought of a Sahara approximating last year's debacle (4 other stages take up the lion's share of time anyway, even in a good year), it's the thought that they might book a Loco Dice or a Carl Cox and pat themselves on the back for a job well done in scoring some "underground techno". Yikes.

Yup. And then we'll have to endure an influx of posters trying to make the very same argument. It's the same narrow minded thinking displayed when nicko and crew try to defend Insomniac's techno stages.

My "dream" is to have at least a portion of the Pure Filth bass oasis in 2011 come back for a set in the Sahara. I'm still mad at myself for missing out on Mala, Breakage, Roska, Jakes, Mount Kimbie, Zinc, Joy Orbison, and Goth Trad

I remember stumbling into the Sahara that year and wound up being really impressed. I'd love to see him again in another early Sahara slot

I have a feeling we're getting some trance this year. Above and Beyond has completely blown up since group therapy so I would be pretty surprised if we don't see them. Arty seems pretty likely too although his newer stuff is more cheese house than trance. Mat Zo, super 8 & tab, Tritonal, BT,ferry Corsten, and boom jinx are all artists I can see on the lineup next year.

I hope there is more variety in the Sahara this year. Last year seemed to mainly be just complex trio, bro step, and cheese house. I'm fine with booking one of the SHM members and some other big names as long as there is variety. And also I'm down for a Kaskade repeat if he promises a deep house set. I saw him at a small show after one of his arena shows and he killed it!

Trance does not qualify as meaningful variety ... same shit, different BPM, heart hands everywhere. In 1999, when trance was arguably at its peak in terms of popularity, this festival gave us Jeff Mills and the Belleville 3. Something of that nature ... that's variety worth rooting for.
