And I don't think Phoenix will be arena-ready yet on their next album, at least not in America. I could be wrong, but we'll see. I think people were surprised the Keys did arenas on their latest tour. It would take a massive hit, bigger than 1901 or Lisztomania, to propel Phoenix into arenas on the next album.

Didn't Phoenix sell out Madison Square? Didn't they have a bigger crowd in 2010 than Pavement? Weren't they a headliner at Lolla? Another hit record and I think they have a chance.

Phoenix sold out the Hollywood Bowl too. Put on an amazing and memorable show as well. If they come out with another album before next year, I could definitely see their name in big font on the top of one the days.

I think they're on the same level (or about to be) as MUSE, Kings of Leon, and the Black Keys.

I don't think Jack White will headline until the Stripes reunite, but it's possible.

So was Black Keys headlining after playing the previous year, so was Kings of Leon headlining anything at all...the Jack White arguments are fucking stupid however, Sasquatch normally has smaller headliners because it's a smaller festival and Lollapalooza can suck a dick with their headlining picks, I hope to God Tollet never actually looks at Lolla's lineup when considering what to pick next year. Jack White doesn't even seem to be a true headliner for OSL.

I think the appeal of Phoenix is greater along the coasts and in major metropolises, not so much in "middle America" (those socialist French!). They were third line in 2010, I could see them bumped to the second line in 2013. Even first billed on that line. I could be wrong of course, just speculating...

Maybe they're at the same spot Muse was after Absolution, but I don't know, I don't think so. Then again they're two completely different bands/styles. Muse is much more epic. The thing about Kings of Leon is they were around (and getting buzz) for nearly a decade before they headlined. I remember MTV airing their videos as early as '02 or '03. I'd say Phoenix's trajectory is closest to the Keys post-Brothers, but again not even that high. (This coming from a casual "fan", if I would even describe myself that way, but someone who isn't so into them I can't see clearly where they stand.)

A Killers song came on shuffle today and it got me thinking. I think they're a fair possibility for 2013. They should be well into touring for their upcoming album by next April and it's been 4 years since they last headlined (same time it took for RHCP to return). I know a lot of you aren't crazy about them but I haven't seen them since like 2005 so I wouldn't mind seeing post-Hot Fuss material live.

While this is true with The Black Keys, they also had an onslaught of radio play the entire time (and still going) and a new album at the end to boot. Can't say the same will happen with Jack White, who's also simply not as popular as The Black Keys.

I don't really have a specific argument as to why Jack White won't be there next year, it's just a gut feeling.
