"The Black Keys brand of regurgitated guitar rock?" It's called blues, you fucking dipshit. Exactly what are the other bands in this "brand" that you're claiming?

The Black Keys have put out a really good album like every fucking year since 2004.

If dreams help, last night I dreamed No Doubt/The Fugees/Bruce Springsteen. Seems both realistic and "left field" enough to anonymously post on the Monklish comments and have everybody convinced it's true for a couple months.

    Hey, Perry!

    Yeah?

Who are some of the bands headlining for 2010?

    Arcade Fire and The Strokes.

Would you mind if I had them headline for 2011?

    Yeah, OK.

Thanks, buddy. See you in the Sahara.

I'm not saying Jack White is a headliner (White Stripes are, though) but this argument is flawed because Thom Yorke hasn't seriously developed his solo credentials. If Thom Yorke came out with a big solo album that was as accessible as Jack White's solo stuff, toured behind it, etc. then he absolutely could be a headliner. Atoms for Peace was awesome but that was a one-off. Apple/Oranges.

Well pretty sure erasure was a much beloved album, and if you look at thom's setlist it was a combination of atoms, solo stuff and radiohead. And if you look at jack whites setlists they are comprised of racountuers, white stripes, and solo stuff. So honestly having jack white as a headliner next year I honestly feel would be out of the question, two to three years though I could definatley see it. However I highly doubt he will play next year because after he is done touring this album I would think he would go back into the studio, and would not be available next year.

This is a radiohead-centric board - any statements you present that would set Thom Yorke anything less than Jesus will get your torn up.

Basically the board is kind of like Sonicc when it comes to SHM, except its for Radiohead.

It sounds like you think Jesus and Yorke are in the same league or something. Like Jesus even comes close...

They are two of my favorite bands...so yes? I don't think appealing to similar audiences is necessarily a bad thing.

I don't think it matters...it will sell out. Maybe not as fast as this year, but it will surely sell out.

Maybe. I think the headliners, esp. Snoop & Dre, really got people excited this year. I don't think GV will allot all the wristbands to the presale so there will still be some for the general onsale. So it depends on how excited the lineup (headliners) gets people.

The first weekend almost sold out without a line-up. Both weekends will sell out no problem.

I agree, but whether Goldenvoice would go that route is another question. It seems like they've been aiming at 3 different demographics with their headliner selections the past few years.

Agreed, but I don't think they'll sell their total allotment of tickets in the pre-sale. It seems to me like there's something to be said for announcing the lineup, having (what's left of the) tickets go on sale that Friday, and selling out in a few hours. Creates more of a buzz than if all the tickets are already sold when the lineup is announced.

They appeal to a similar audience much in the way that The Black Keys and Radiohead appeal to a similar audience. I think there may actually be more crossover between The Black Keys and Radiohead than between Pearl Jam and Tool. Both bands use guitars and drums, but that's where the similarities end. Seems like a non-issue to me.

I was thinking more along the lines of alternative rock bands from the 90s, re: similarities. It wouldn't bother me if both were there, and both would be significant draws for the 2 weekends, it was just something that crossed my mind on my commute.

One thing people need to keep in mind is that when GV books Coachella, it doesn't just do it to sell out this year, it does it to give people an experience they want to come back for next year. The presales are very important, and they get sold primarily based on people wanting to return to a great overall experience. So even if they could sell out without releasing a lineup and then pull a fast one with a sub-par bill, it would hurt them next year.

Yeah, there's some element of crossover with all of the headliners they'll book. That's why they'd be playing at the same festival. I'm sure a lot of people wanted to see Radiohead and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg this year. Or Arcade Fire and Kanye West last year. I think what years they were active and popular seems like an arbitrary reason not to book both of them.

I understand why it would cross your mind, though.

Queens of the Stone Age > Phoenix (McMau5 closing)
    Jack White > No Doubt
    Sigur Ros > Eminem

Jack White is a very confusing booking, because I feel like some people would have him headlining over a possible headliner such as No Doubt, he IS headlining 'squatch, but not OSL. I think Phoenix and No Doubt both have the same headlining power, but in the last few years, we've only had one of "those" headliners, but I can't really think of any other realistic headliner.

Regarding HotHamWater's posts about crossover fans, I feel that Eminem really doesn't crossover well at all to most other headliners, especially the ones you have playing in contrast to him aeroplane, it just doesn't seem to fit at all
