January thru April 29th - The worst time of the year here.
I would support these headliners if some combination of the Knife, Moby, Underworld, Basement Jaxx, and Royksopp were conflicting with each one.
The Killers & Muse are both too soon (as are Arcade Fire, for that one person who mentioned them). And if that Rolling Stone article said it took 4 months for the 2Pac hologram to be completed, and it was debuted on April 15, then it could have been conceived and brought to fruition entirely after Dr. Dre & Snoop got added to the lineup in lieu of Black Sabbath.
I don't think Foo Fighters would be a good fit next year due to what Miror Noir said -- they've played everywhere these last couple of years, and are a second-tier headliner at Outside Lands. How would that look for Coachella to have an act that's not even among the top 3 names at a mid-tier fest like OSL one year be one of their top 3 acts the following year? That being said, I would like for them to return eventually since I'm not going to pay what it would cost to see them on their own.
I also don't think we're going to see our first threepeat headliner (meaning no Tool, Bjork, or Red Hot Chili Peppers) for a couple more years unless next year is really weak for touring acts that could headline. Tool & RHCP would be too similar a booking to Pearl Jam, so unless PJ declined the offer to play (they wouldn't really be excluded from consideration again, would they?), I can't see them being on the lineup.
Would No Doubt & Pearl Jam be too similar a booking, or do they appeal to a different enough audience that they both could play the same year? I think one of them will be there next year along with Yeah Yeah Yeahs (well, assuming they're even working on an album -- it'll have been 4 years since they played Coachella) and somebody from left field. Maybe Black Sabbath to make up for this year's cancellation? Coachella has recycled a previous year's Lolla headliner before (Arcade Fire), so it wouldn't be without precedent.
I could see Green Day being day one headliner, and aren't they coming out with 3 albums one right after another really soon?
Why would anyone want My Morning Jacket to headline? They are awful.
Also OutKast for 2013 Sunday headliner please!!

Stones = U2 = Zeppelin-1 = too big 4 chella
U2 isn't going to be doing anything next year. By all accounts, they're taking a lengthy break now. And probably figuring out what they want to do going forward: 1) an Achtung or ATYCLB-style narrative reshuffling for a new decade, 2) become the next incarnation of the Stones (settle on being comfortable with the idea of being a tribute band to their earlier glories . . . which they've kinda been doing since 2004 anyway), or 3) follow R.E.M.'s path. As a fan, I'm hoping 1 is possible. If not, I'd like 3. My fear is that 2 is far too lucrative.

Sorry but Portishead wouldn't headline. Where's the buzz for them?
