Omnibus 2013 Headliner Speculation and Argument Thread

Behold: your one-stop shop for all 2013 headliner speculation. A place to argue about unsourced internet rumors concerning Daft Punk. A place to discuss the potential of a lady headliner. A place to consider the headlining merits of various classic rock acts that will never play Coachella. A place to debate the "rap headliner every year" postulate. A place to request Radiohead, again.

I'll kick things off, Green Day will have 2013's Black Keys/Kings of Leon/Muse/Killers/Jack Johnson/Red Hot Chili Peppers "our songs are played on heavy rotation FM radio" headliner spot.

Outkast or Eminem fill rap slot - darkhorses Drake, Lady Gaga

My Morning Jacket or Green Day fill the contemporary classic rock slate. Darkhorses actual classic rockers - Stones, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Bruce, Paul Simon - or maybe quick Black Keys Turnaround for Florence.

Daft Punk leads arty fare slot, followed by Tool - darkhorses The National, big time older act like Bowie or Talking Heads or quickly Reunited REM.

Personally, I'd like to see the fest take a year off the rap Headliner if can't get Outkast and go with an Old Timer in one of the three slots next year.

Yes. Quite a few less-than-headliner rap acts I'd like to see at Coachella, but Outkast is the only headliner worthy rap act I'm hoping for. Anything else would be total disappointment. The reality of this? Google "Outkast 2013" just to find a link back to Coachella.com message board. Unfortunate. Drake will never be a headliner at Coachella unless 100% of the tickets are sold to 19 year old girls, and the 24 year old guys trying to bang them. I keep praying to myself that the actual lineup headliners will look nothing like any of the fake posters. Hopefully GV has some surprises that none of us saw coming!

Surprisingly I actually wouldn't mind Green Day because I know they have really energetic live performances, and lets face it, they're going to draw a big crowd and people are going to have fun at their set even if they're whining and complaining on here.

No... It was cool for the Dre set, but it wouldnt have the same effect if anyone else used it. Sadly i feel the Beastie Boys will always be about the 3 of them. Would i hold it against them if they toured w/out him, no.... They deff would have been on my lineup pool (that post is almost 2 weeks old).


I have absolutely no idea who our headliners are going to be next year....Oddly enough i feel there are more possibilities this year than there were the past 2.

Beasties = not touring or performing any time soon.

NWA = If Ice Cube, Yella, and MC Ren were not joining Dre on stage this year with all endless and dull line-up of guest MCs that joined his set his year, it isn't going to happen, period. Plus, I want to say that they said that the NWA mini-set performed at during the Up In Smoke tour was the last time that a "reunion" was going to take place.

Public Enemy = Played in 2009, on the outdoor. Would love to see them back, but I don't think they'll be headlining anytime soon.

EPMD = That be great for all the true hip-hop fans, but so would Company Flow, and judging by their crowd turn-out this year... yeah, I dunno about this.

i read the same article (where the 4 months notion came from). it stated there was talk of a tour. I don't think there would be a holo-tour without a coachella debut, however.

Green Day doesn't sound right at all. It sounds ludicris and completely awful. Coachella is better than Green Day...they're a perfect fit for Lolla, not us.

Re: categories. Of course you can't fit every festival headliner since the 3-day expansion into perfect categorical boxes, but there has been a certain logic to it. The big switch has been from a classic rock legend in 08-09, to a rap act in 10-12, but all things considered, there have been three imperfect categories they've fit the headliners into each year.
