I was at both. I went into Arcade Fire not being a fan. I find their newest album to be the most boring pos to ever be created. However they are very genuine and connect well to the audience. You feel like they bring everyone together. It's a fun moment and reached special during wakeup. However looking back that is the only song i even remember. Radiohead on the otherhand was song after song artistic brilliance. Radiohead by a mile for me.

they both headlined Saturday night, easily comparable...

Im not gaga over either band, but AF is in the top 3 sets ive seen at Coachella. They are spot on when it comes to recreating their sound live, humble, and way more energetic. Not to knock Radiohead, because i did walk away from their set w/ a lot more respect than i previously had.

Both sets were incredible, but id deff side w/ AF.

W/ the winds limiting the side screens i wonder if we were jipped on part of the RH show.... guess we'll see this weekend.

Why do people on this board think that a more energetic live show makes for a better live show?

because maybe thats what people are into.... interacting w/ the crowed is a big part of being an entertainer and i feel like AF does, or did, a much better job. In no way does that specific quality make it a better show but for some people thats what they enjoy.

    energy.... go figure.

It would have been really strange if the boys in Real Estate were headbanging and jumping up and down.

no i get that, some bands have way less energy on a whole..... but a band like Radiohead has the ability to rock out and they also have the ability to keep it mellow. They do what they want..... this performance in general, though brilliant, was just less energetic than a lot of people were expecting.

another example, Beirut.... going into their set sunday i had very little expectation because a number of people said that their more recent sets had been boring, but i found their energy to be a big part of why i enjoyed it.

the real question should be, arcade 2005 vs radiohead 2004?

the only thing arcade fire has done since they first played coachella is move stages and play different songs. nothing beats the first impression.

I don't think so, I've seen Radiohead before and I don't think they used any video screens then either. Unless they incorporate the same sort of visuals that are on stage, plain shots of the band wouldn't mesh with their performance "vision" so to speak

Morinign Mr Magpie, Pyramid Song and EEIIRP alone trumps the Arcade Fire performance by a mile.

To say the truth, I still didn't get over Thom's performance of After The Gold Rush into Everything In Its Right Place yet... by far the most poingnant moment of the festival so far.

Arcade Fire were special in 2007 because of the sense of urgency that they brought to that set. They didn't waste one of their fifty minutes. The stretch of Funeral anthems and "No Cars Go" at the end was just incredible.

2005: Gang of Four vs Arcade Fire. Worst conflict in Coachella history.

Radiohead will use whatever screens they want to use.

I will always remember "No Cars Go" at the end, I had never heard it before and was blown away. Also I was very excited to hear Rebellion (Lies) because I wasn't sure if they were going to play it, but they actually closed with it or something like that. (Bon Iver pulled a similar stunt on me this year with Beth/Rest.)

OK so after listening to/watching the Arcade Fire 2011 webcast (see above) I feel a little better about missing it. (I understand being there is completely different than 'experiencing' it from a cubicle on YouTube.)

Radiohead. Saw them for the first time in SB a few days ago and their coachella set surpassed that one. I saw a few minutes of AF last year. Both great bands. Neverthelss, I'll stick to Radiohead.

I honestly think the weather had alot to do with it. It was windy and damp and cold. People wanted to be energized, they wanted to sing along and dance to songs they knew and not have to think about how freaking cold it was. Radiohead didn't really let us do that. The place was packed in and everyone was buzzing for the set but 30 minutes in it was obvious what type of set it would be. People were bummed and they bounced. That's why, in this case, many of the people that were actually there are saying it was boring and needed energy. The weather isn't Radiohead's fault, but if you're judging how much you enjoyed a set, it factors in.

Prepare to be disappointed. Of course, you sound like you're 16. I'm sure you'll get over it.

Oh I couldn't have missed the beginning of their set. 2 of my faves (Rebellion/No Cars) were right up front. Funny how in 07 they closed with those.
