Teenage pacifier dance music? A lot of shows he plays old school techno and house, which is the antithesis of what those people enjoy. Maybe not so much in the states but if you check up on his setlists you'd get a better understanding. Hes one of the better DJs around, and actually constructs his sets to appeal to whatever demographic attends his shows, while still staying true to his sound. Not many DJs do that these days.

And I blame the American scene on e-tards showing up and running their drooling mouths about him, there ain't many corners of the US where drugged out teeny boppers and bros show up and ruin things in this day and age. If its EDM, idiots will represent, that's the sad reality of what this music brings.

How many times was Levels played at Coachella?

    Well, Avicii played it twice:

    First he opened with it.

Then he played a Levels/Gotye remix later on his set.

    Sebastian Ingrosso played it.

    Alesso played it.

    Dave Guetta played it.

The most egregious has to be Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso playing it when they are back to back. Isn't this like DJ for Dummies? What's it called when the guy in front of you plays a song and you go right out and play the same exact fucking song right after him?

I was pretty sure SHM was the epitome of teenage pacifier music weren't they? I mean, it seems you're not backing up Steve Angello for once? Or maybe its Avicii - please Sonicc - we've yet to hear your reviews on the EDM event of a life time that happened at Coachella '12

and I also heard Zedd playing the same remix of Gotye's Somebody I Used To Know (along with Justice's We Are Your Friends and Swedish House Mafia's Save The World).

Definitely, not the Sahara of previous years, and I thought 2007 was bad with the same song repeating.

Really pisses me off that Swedish House/Ingrosso were essentially paid FOUR FUCKING TIMES to play the exact same set. The best EDM wasn't in the Sahara this year at all. Hell, I was grooving my ass off in the Heineken Dome on Saturday to Audrey Napoleon (that's her name, right?) before Donald Glaude came on. She was getting really into the music and dancing along with us, it was great.

I spent a total of 10 minutes in the Sahara this year, versus all day in previous years. Hell, even the KROQ tent was throwing it down harder than Sahara. If they dont switch it up next year, I'll be surprised.

I think you all are forgetting that teenagers are very fickle and their tastes change with the seasons. In two years cheesehouse will no longer have the same drawing power, the kids will have already moved onto something else. We'll get our EDM back, it's just a matter of the teens consuming a new musical trend.

2 years is enough time for skrillex to release an album, and justice will still be touring from AVD...and avicii will have the hottest remix of levels with a new Madonna song

I also predict famine, the plague and a man atop a white horse, his name shall be death and he will play save the world on repeat while the world ends

Well said. Hell, I was 22 when I went to my first Coachella (2007) and my taste in music has changed/evolved so much since then.

^ But wouldn't you say that some of your music tastes changed in part because you were exposed to new/different sounds at Coachella? Like, didn't you see some stuff in the Sahara that led you to research other genres/styles you hadn't been exposed to before? That is sadly what is really missing from this year's EDM lineup as a whole.

I've already noticed dubstep starting to retreat. Let's hope the next musical trend involves indie bands so we can move some of this suffering away from the Sahara. Then I can go into their threads and yell IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SHITTY NON-EDM THERE'S PLENTY OF GOOD EDM ON THE OTHER STAGES GAWD

I was 19 at my first Coachella in 2001. I went to see Fatboy Slim and I also chose to see Uberzone and Christopher Lawrence over Squarepusher because I hadn't a fucking clue who Squarepusher was at the time. I don't even think I would go out of my way to watch Fatboy Slim at Coachella now. My taste has also evolved to the point where choosing to stay for all of Uberzone and then Christopher Lawrence instead of leaving and going to Squarepusher now seems like the worst decision I have ever made at Coachella.
    fuck.

I'm hoping for the UK/European bass movement to make itself more visible in America (stuff like Roska and French Fries, likely not gonna happen).

This is true. I hated all things electronic before my first Coachella. I was exposed to the cheese (Guetta, Aoki, Tiesto etc.) in 2007 as well as non-cheese acts (Faithless, Richie Hawtin, Soulwax etc.). Seeing those latter acts definitely pushed me in the right direction, but I still think my tastes would have changed regardless.

Also, I feel like a lot of these kids are set in their ways at the moment. I doubt any of them would have wandered over to, for example, Underworld if they were booked this past year. I'm sure a few would be curious, but still.

Fuck it guys, let's jus all eat some pills, not wear shirts and make a big Ol bro pile in the sahara. With the boardie count, we can keep a minimum of a 50 person group that holds hands as we shove to the front and then rub our sweaty bodies on eachother and anyone near us, stand around for ten minutes before moving over 20 feet and repeating the same actions

    It will be so fun.

Correction, it will be siiiiiick Brahmin

I remain unconvinced that the majority of Sahara attendees still wouldn't be getting the fuck down to a WIDE number of current techno/tech-house/house/UKbass producers & DJs. Doesn't have to be Underworld or even other EDM legends or pioneers.

Oh, I agree. I was just referring to a situation like last year when it was the Presets vs. Axwell. I'm sure the kids would get down to Vision Quest, Metro Area, Max Cooper, etc. if they were playing earlier Sahara time slots.

GV is so far away from putting together a decent dance lineup. They'll probably never get there.

Assuming GV continues to fill the Sahara w/ the horribles, no goods and very bads, I'd like to see them throw caution to the wind and book a few really forward-thinking acts. Something on the order of Voices from the Lake or the live collab btw Dettmann, Modeselektor and Shed, or Surgeon.
