    Default Showers at the Campground

What did everybody think for weekend 1?

I was in lot 7 & they didn't open up the showers until 8 am. They were quick to charge $10 for VIP showers though, not sure if that was just getting pocketed by the security. Lot 10 had 24 hour showers but if you wanted to shower in the morning it was a looong horrible wait. There was some guy in lot 7 regulating how long of a shower we took - i waited 2 hours for a shower and I was allowed a 5 minute shower. Great times.

Why not just open up all of the showers at 6am so those of us who are up early can shower without having to wait forever?

Seems like the shower situation changes every year. I know in '10 it was a total cluster fuck with all of the showers in the same location, but this year seemed worse than last year which seemed like was an improvement - maybe it's because there were less showers available this year? I liked it in 05-09 when all of the showers were along the perimeter of the campgrounds. much easier, but of course that was before car camping.

don't know the figures but it seemed like there were less of those porta showers overall this year.

I've had way better experiences in past Coachella camps.

This year was an absolute cluster fuck getting in, took 3x longer, everything wasn't even set up yet.

Perhaps GV will be on it faster for future Chella's since they now own the land and can modify it to their liking.

Showers in lot 10: Need racks for your shit. New compact trailers there sucked (no changing spot, one loose curtain between you and main shower hallway

Also - VIP showers were 2hour long lines.

Oooh 24 hour showers. I like that. I plan to take a shower at the end of the day but was worried I'd have to leave the later sets early, which would result in me just not showering. Better all around if I do shower.

Day 1 No showers at all in area 5, Day 2 the line was 2 hrs long went to VIP, had to wait and hour for a COLD shower got the $10 back. Day 3 decided not to open until 8 sat in line for an hour because we went at 7. Totally ridiculous!! Never had this problem before..but really..you don't check before hand to see if they work,,or if they get hot?? Stupid, stupid, stupid!

I'm sure they'll fix all those problems for weekend 2. And if I'm wrong, may we all be horribly crushed from above somehow.

Lot 5 shower situation was completely fucked up. Thankfully, I was fully prepared for shower bullshit, so I was quite content with bio-wipe body shower, and a pressurized misting system goodness to wash my hair and brush my teeth.

I went into the Rolling Stones Showers in Lot 10 and they were disgusting with trash throughout every stall and no space. I was contemplating finding the VIP shower but was already inside the trailer so I just dealt with it. Did anybody use the VIP showers?

I was in lot 7 and it took 2.5 hours in line to take a shower. Last year it was in-and-out for the showers and it seems like there were less of them this year. Needless to say I only showered on Saturday morning.

I only waited 2 minutes for a shower saturday at around 1. When I walked up to the trailer, there was only one girl in front of me and then 2 girls came out right away. it had plenty of hot water, too! Sunday I waited about 15 minutes, but it was around 10am, so that was expected.

Was in Lot 8. The shower situation on Friday was crappy. Best time to take showers are in the evening while the big groups are on. The also close them down in the middle of the afternoon.

I stood in line in the lot 7 shower line for 30 minutes barely moving. I heard a rumor that the showers by the general store were faster and boy were they right. I walked over and waited maybe 10 minutes and could shower with no time limit. After I showered I walked by the lot 7 shower to see all the people I was standing in line with not moving...

Here's my experience with this nonsense. Hope it helps anyone during Weekend 2 who winds up in Lot 5...

Friday: as Dumbfound already mentioned, the Lot 5 showers were shut down. Walked over to the lot 8 showers where they had both beige colored and white shower trailers. Chose the beige trailer because they had the mirrors and sinks with hot and cold running water. There was maybe one other guy there the whole time. This was around 11 am.

Saturday: again, the Lot 5 showers are experiencing technical difficulties so I try the lot 8 showers. This time one of the beige trailers is open but each shower floor is flooded with about half a foot of filthy water. Try the white trailer. It's a bit crowded but no wait. Also, this was around 11 am.

Sunday: I think at this point the lot 5 showers were working but I headed over to lot 8 to try my luck. This time they were doing something different. Apparently they were temporarily letting the women use the showers in one of the men's designated beige trailers so there was about fourteen of us waiting for the ladies to finish up. Waited for about thirty minutes tops. Didn't seem too long. Luckily the floors weren't flooded with the water this time.

Anyway, this is probably way too much info for such a simple topic but I know what a royal pain in the ass it is to get through that shower bottleneck when you're awake in the heat and just want to get clean and refreshed before you head into the venue. My choice was to hold off on the shower in the early part of the morning and instead eat breakfast, prepare what you're going to take into the show and leave the shower trip to just before you need to head into the venue.

I tried lot 7 showers on Friday and it was a total clusterfuck. at least 100 women in line for 2 trailers. I went over to lot 10 camping center and they had a lot more trailers and waited about 15 minutes. On Saturday, it was about an hour wait at 7am mainly because shower 'security' were idiots. Sunday about 10am, it was an hour wait.

for non-VIP there are outlets at the sink areas outside the shower trailers.

Things I wouldn't care to notice gone if it would make showers always like 2011:

    The Rose Garden
    Gold Cart Transport
    Thursday Night Camping Entertainment

Some will say those items were there in 2011, but I am saying hypothetically to guarantee a great shower environment. (also great shower environment, hot naked chicks or men, depending, for viewing pleasure)

I was in lot 8, the only time I tried to take a shower was on Saturday morning. We got into line around 7:30 and waited until the showers opened at 8 (which yes I agree, why not open them up at 6am so the lines would be shorter later?? Many people would go shower right away just to avoid 2 hour waits later). Anyway, After 8am opened, we probably waited 20ish minutes until we got into a shower. So almost an hour total, going right before they opened. The 2 shower trailers next to us weren't working...sucks for all the girls that got in that line and were first, only to have to leave it 5 minutes later to join a longer line.

Yes, but the generators got blown out on one of them Saturday because girls were running hair dryers.

It sounds silly, but putting sunscreen on before you leave for the showers is not a bad idea. You can bake if you get stuck waiting in line. Bring a water too.

Default Re: Showers at the Campground

    1. why not have the showers run the perimeter of the campgrounds like they have in years passed? the shower lines are then easily defined, whereas this year in lot 10 and in lot 7 the line was twisting and breaking the flow of walking traffic so bad that you couldn't even find the end of the line

    2. why in the hell do you wait until opening the showers until 8am? so the line can just get ridiculous? if you don't have the showers running 24 hours, then fine, but at least start them early so the lines don't get ridiculous

    3. this years shower situation is not as bad as '10....but definitely really really bad. at one point the security in lot 7 said they ran out of hot water (when it was freezing cold on friday/saturday). also at one point the security left their posts guarding the gates because they said there was no water and if people went in it was their fault.

i honestly can say this shower crap every year takes a little bit out of the joy of camping for me. yes you can go without showering or just shower by your car...which is what most people were doing who were fed up with it. hence, shampoo soap and toothpaste spit all over the place.

I don't understand why it's so hard for them to line the perimeter of each lot with shower trailers. Maybe three or four in each corner of lots 8 and 10 and two and the north and south ends of lots 7 and 5. When you consider how camping capacity has tripled and with each car averaging more than one person, it makes sense to spring for more showers. I can't imagine that it'd be a large percentage of the budget at this point,

But I also was able to walk in to the showers at like 11 or noon when I needed to...as always.

So glad I have Lake Eldorado and won't have to put up with this crap. It shouldn't be that hard to have an efficient shower system for general camping, especially when the fest has been taking place for this long.

Friday the showers were a joke in Lot 5. Opened late and shut down early. We walked over the employee lot across the road and security didn't care. Used the employee showers with no line. Tried that again on Saturday but security had caught on and stopped us. Saturday and Sunday were fine in Lot 5 if you waited until after 11am. Less than 30 minute wait for guys and on Sunday they even changed one of the girls showers to a guys shower because there were absolutely no girls in line. I had friends use the VIP showers and they said the showers themselves were worse than the normal ones.
