Thread: Your top 5 performances from 2012 (weekend one edition)

    1. Pulp (The main reason I came and they didn't disappoint)
    2. Radiohead (Always great, even though I saw them 3 weeks earlier)
    3. St Vincent (Man, was she stoked to be there. I was right in her face when she jumped into the crowd. My third time seeing her and was still blown away)
    4. Flying Lotus (Everyone just lost it at his show. His smile was ear to ear the entire time)
    5. Amon Tobin (Perfect set at the perfect time. At least half the crowd left in the first 15 minutes when they figured out it wasn't dance music. Coachella needs more acts like this).

and just because I can't leave them out:

    6. Girls (The performance of Vomit was my single favorite song of the weekend. Gave me chills)

1.) Dre and Snoop. Never seen so many people singing and moving together in one place before.
2.) Girl Talk. What a fucking party.
3.) St. Vincent. Awesome performance and the crowd surfing was completely unexpected by me.
4.) Modeselektor. A lot of people missed a great set in the Mojave.
5.) Death Grips. I am honestly not a huge fan of the music but this performace had crazy energy.

    4. The Shins
    5. Bon Iver

This was the song they closed with, right? It was one of the best songs I heard all weekend. Gave me chills, as well, and I wasn't even a GIRLS fan coming into the weekend. In fact, I hated their first album and didn't give the newest one a chance. I just sort of walked to their set because I had nothing to do. It was jaw dropping.

Yup, the final song. And you should give their new album a chance as well as the EP they released before it. Completely different from their debut album (which I'm not a fan of either)

    4. Refused
    5. Jeff Mangum

Honorable mentions: At the Drive-In, Destroyer, The Rapture, Flying Lotus, Real Estate, M. Ward

Three observations: M. Ward never really clicked for me until I saw him live, but he was very good. Wish I could have stayed for his whole st. Also, Beirut put on a great show, which I was doubting because I saw them at the Greek in October and was extremely underwhelmed (seemed like Zach mailed it in). Not the case at Coachella. They were spot on. I still miss the strings though...

Finally, Real Estate were great! I was surprised because I did not like the album at all. Time to revisit it.

Dre/Snoop spectacle. I'll go on record as saying that I didn't not like their set as much as the consensus here, but I can appreciate what it was a fucking spectacle not seen since Roger Waters (and honestly everything I thought the Gorillaz would've been). The set was everything that the Coachella weekend was/is: distasteful, weird, interesting, mind-blowing and amazing all at once. I'd never thought I'd see/hear In Da Club or Eminem in the Polo Fields and throughly enjoy it. And goddamn was it loud. But the hologram? Dre performing like 4 of his songs? Not really a performance but a show. Still, I'm fortunate and satisfied I got to witness it.

Another year and not one foot stepped in the Sahara or near it, except for Thursday night when all was peaceful and quiet to check out the lighting.

Gotta say I think a lot of you are overrating Dre and Snoop. It was better than I was expecting but it was still silly, I still had to listen to some really DUMB songs that are hits for Snoop. When said songs came on it was just like being in an LA club. I had a good time there but I think artistically just parading out guest spot after guest spot, the hologram, singing ten songs about weed...meh just doesn't do it for me.

This is subject to change, and aren't in any order:

Modeselektor (easily the best of the weekend, too bad the tent was so empty)
    At the Drive-In
    Radiohead
    Explosions in the Sky
SHM (swinging back and forth on this one...I had fun but retrospectively the whole thing was just a build up, a drop, a build up, a drop...I think I enjoyed it so much because it warmed me up after Friday's rainy buzzkill)
