Coachella Crowd

I've been watching the live webcasts and have been a bit disappointed by the audiences. It feels like a lot of great artists are having trouble provoking a reaction from the crowd. And it's not for lack of talent or great music, the crowds just watch stonily and then it's the sound of 70,000 people each with one hand clapping.

Does anyone else get this feeling? Or is it just tough to capture the atmosphere on camera?

I agree. Watching the webcast, I've noticed this pretty much across the board. It seemed like people barely moved or even head-bobbed for bands like Refused, Jetpacks, Radiohead, Shins, which were all great sets.

I don't think it's awkward. I'd just like to know what kind of vibe it'll be when I attend the second weekend. Having never been to Coachella before, I'm just hoping it'll be crazy like a European festival with a lot of fan participation/appreciation.

I just hope everybody is in the same spirit for weekend 2.

Refused had a REALLY intense, hard-moshing crowd. Maybe it didn't appear so on the webcast, but that shit was VERY wild.

Also had good crowds at GIVERS, Grouplove, Madness, Hives, fIREHOSE, First Aid Kit.

Crowds were smaller for a lot of acts. Squeeze barely filled half the tent, I bellied up to the stage for Madness and no one was there to see LA club legends, fIREHOSE. Could that many have been at Sahara?

I wondered how big the crowd for Madness was, that's a shame. Many of the bigger names that I was looking for ended up having relatively tiny crowds and nearly all of these shows had the best audience I've ever seen. I don't know if Beirut, Madness, The Black Angels, Modeselektor, and Explosions in the Sky were part of the broadcast but all of these would have been great examples of either a highly energetic or completely grateful crowd. Acts like Radiohead are going to obviously have those fans that are just waiting for Creep and just text or chat with other dipshits because they don't have anything better to do or forgot about Guetta.

i couldn't dance at laidback luke; i was wiped out and ended up having to curl up on the grass next to the sahara and wait for my body to eb responsive again.

anything outside, it was hard to get down for on friday, because it was COLD. on the other hand, the crowds were light across the board (eg, lots of people just stayed home), so it was easy to get into the middle of crowds in the tents and dance up a storm.
