Default Andrew pimps his band, awaits your honest reviews

These are the first 4 demos from my group, The Tet Holiday. I play guitar, sing, and write the songs. We are a trio. The songs are done except for the last song, Oh My Soul, which is lacking a recorded bassline, though one has been written.

Anyway, please give your honest opinion. If you don't like it, you can say so. Just one thing: no complaints about recording quality. They are demos, done on Garageband, and guitar and drums were recorded live with one mic in the middle of the room. Bass and vocals are overdubbed. We don't have the greatest equipment at our disposal at the moment. Anyways, thanks for listening. I appreciate it.

First off, I personally like swirling guitars and effects lately. Been listening to alot of Secret Machines and Silversun Pickups. I know that is not what you are going for, but I think with your songs and sound some cool feedback and/or effects could really be add some flavor to the songs. So now it comes to this, I am not trying to be a dick, this is one man's opinion. I am going to picture the sound quality as if it was recorded well and not a demo and review the song structure and vocals and such...

Rainclouds - drags a bit at the beginning. Could cut one or two of the bars of music. Unless you are planning on doing more guitar sounds and or effects, get to the verse. The vocals could use work. Vocal lessons are a must. no one is above voice lessons. Song could really go somewhere live I would imagine. Not bad, just needs some work.

Flashbulbs - I like this one, vocals once again need improvement. Harmonies on this could really be cool. The free-form breakdown really could be something cool live. Once again, feedback up the ass and effects could make that part really strong. It's a good song.

Everything But Me - Very Pumpkins vs. White Stripes in my opinion. I like the groove and the blues influence. Vocals again but whatever it's bluesy. Drumming is good. after the drum breakdowns and the guitar solos give your bassist some time to shine then kick back into it.

Overall you are on the right path. Songs are good, need some work but it's not shit so that's always a plus. Keep at it.

I didn't know if the vocals were due to the mix or what. But I couldn't make out a single lyric. and I tried to.

The vocals are supposed to blend in the mix for the most part on Rainclouds. The other two aren't supposed to be at the forefront, but no one has complained about their volume yet. They should be audible. The fact they aren't is obviously due to your advanced age (I'm kidding, I'm kidding). Oh My Soul is an instrumental.

And shotglass, the live show is much louder and more feedbacky and all that. When we recorded, we would have to play much louder than we did to get good feedback and all that, and the mic would have clipped. Rainclouds is going to have a strange vocal loop over the beginning when I get it done in the studio. We jam on the breakdown part of Flashbulbs live. And you are the first person to even mention a blues influence on Everything But Me. Congratulations. And you aren't being a dick. Don't worry.

Thanks for listening everyone. And I appreciate the comments.

Oh, I suppose I should also mention Robbie sings on Rainclouds. His vocals are a bit more audible in the blend than mine. Vocal lessons are on the horizon as well, I have just been too lazy to figure it out. I was always a guitar player, but it's too hard to find singers when in high school (when I started this group, last year). So I just took over.

    All Mormon, no stage presence.

Plus, it's rock and roll for fuck's sake. No one bitches about the guy from the Rapture and the fact he just yelps. I have never claimed to be an excellent singer, but I don't think I'm bad.

i'd like to hear what it sounds like with a more solid recording.
    nice work on the demos.
a few parts could use shortening, primarily verses
and i think the chorus on 'everything but me' would sound cool with a harmony.

    just my dos pesos.
I am going to get so blown to Cypress Hill while they play.

We're actually going to be doing more harmonies and stuff. Robbie can sing pretty well, so we have taken that into account.

Haven't listened to the tracks yet, I'm at work, but "The Tet Holiday" is a fucking great name. Was there a lengthy debate on variations? Like The Tet Offensive, or Tet-a-tet Offensive, or The Tet Offended, etc?

The name is cool. The concept of The Tet Offensive is so engrained in our cultural identity, that when someone uses the holiday in its original context, its like a double-take. Of course, its actually in the context of a band name, but that just adds another layer of meaning.
