"No advertising signage or logos" in the campgrounds

The welcome guide has a rule for camping on page 29 that states "No advertising signage or logos".

The canopy our group plans on bringing belongs to a business that one of us works for. It has the company name and logo on it, but we have no intention of advertising anything, we're just trying to avoid the cost of a canopy.

Should we anticipate the logo being a problem? If it is, would covering up the logo be acceptable?


I want to avoid getting our canopy taken down, but we're students, so paying for a canopy is not really an option.

If I were you I'd just buy some tarp from Home Depot ($15-20) and cover up the logos. Or some bedsheets, or paper, or whatever else. Solves the problem and you won't be paranoid about your canopy being raided as you're tripping on something on Saturday night.

You do not have to worry about it at all. Many people bring easy ups with logos on them because that is the way they buy them. The rule is for businesses trying to advertise, not for festival goers that buy a product that has a logo on it.

I missed that rule. And, to be honest, I wouldn't worry about it.

Think about this in terms of practicalities. How would you enforce it? Send security people to walk through the campgrounds telling people to take their advertising material down? Yeah, they're going to love doing that, and their love for doing it will cause them to do such a great job. Plus ... every time they tell someone to take something down, they'll attract a crowd of complaining, irritated people; all the neighbors of the people being reprimanded will think it's shit and won't hesitate to say so.

What's the incentive for them to do that?

Alternately, they could rigorously search everyone coming in and prevent advertising material from coming in at the source. But that'll slow everything down enormously, and again, all of the incentives for the people actually doing the work line up in favor of doing a really shitty job.

This just isn't going to happen.

My guess is that the rule is there because it's contractually required by some agreement with one of the companies underwriting the festival. And, *inside the venue*, they'll probably be a bit more uptight about it. But even there ... this isn't something that is practical to enforce, and I can't imagine anyone sane trying to do so.

I think the rule is more about literally advertising something that's for sale, not some logo on a canopy. If you're advertising beers, food, or anything for sale then I can see why they'd have an issue, but if you just have a canopy that says "EZ UP" or "Budweiser" on it then it's not gonna be a problem.
