My friend just left a voicemail asking if I want to go. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, lawn seats are like $63 after fees. Kinda annoyed that he's not going to Coachella even though it's not really his fault...should I go to this? Wouldn't mind seeing Coldplay again but I'm not crazy about the lineup.

What a shit lineup, that's the worst for the Weenie Roast I've ever seen. What is KROQ'S obsession with Offspring? Pennywise has never been that great, Pennywise with a different lead singer even worse.

^ yeah you'd think they'd really bring out the big guns for the 20th. The new Pennywise singer's other band Ignite is pretty rad though.

Jesus, don't they almost have this same shitty lineup every year? Maybe sub out Pennywise and Offspring for Bad Religion or Social D and there you have it. And before anyone gets their undies in a bundle, yes some of those bands were ok and/or fun when you were under 18 but over the age of 25 it's time to grow up and stop listening to that shit.

Sounds like I shouldn't go. I mean I wouldn't MIND seeing some of the bands, I just don't want to go when my friend possibly COULD have come to Coachella with me. Of course if I pass on this he might pass on doing the presale/layaway for next year. Whatevz.

You should go if you want to go and you want to see these bands. I'm just not a fan of really condensed sets.

And yes I like bands 1-4 but even i know it's an awful mix, plus Coldplay is playing 3 shows that same week. Weak ass bookings by kroq.
Night 1 of ACX was much better than this

I would not go to sit on the lawn for $63, xuclarockerx. I do live farther north though, so the drive would have to be worth it.

While Coldplay might be everywhere that week, its also only $85+fees to have the best seats for this vs. $150+fees for the best at the hollywood (or even more for their VIP packages).

Yeah, I will wait for Of Monsters and Men to do another show here. I'm already seeing Coldplay at the Bowl, Garbage at the El Rey, and I'm sure Incubus (don't judge) will play somewhere in SoCal this summer. Oh and I saw Walk the Moon open for Young the Giant, they are pretty good.

I went to the Weenie Roast in 2004 with Beastie Boys, and a less than enthused Strokes, who played after the Beasties to a crowd of 18,000 that was leaving in droves. Halfway through their set, half of the crowd had left.

That said, this line up says a lot about why the KROQ audience is dwindling while 98.7's audience is rising.

I was at that one. The Killers were the first act on the main stage. Then the poor Hives had to go on between Cypress Hill and Velvet Revolver. Still it was a damn good show.

And, yes, 98.7 is light years better than KROQ these days.

However, was that a diss against KROQ versus 98.7? I flip between both when driving and find that KROQ generally plays better/older stuff, while 98.7 (I keep wanting to call them STAR) skews newer/younger. Also, maybe more of the crowd would have stuck around if the Strokes were more "enthused"...

I ended up telling my friend I wasn't crazy about the lineup but if he couldn't find anyone else I'd go (for the lawn). I just checked for tickets myself and had no luck, as I sort of expected.

Yes, it was a huge dig at KROQ. I wouldn't say better/worse in the matter of that either station plays, but it seems like KROQ is, and has been for awhile, fairly conservative with what it plays on the radio. The station hangs on that "World Famous" tagline while forgetting how it became that way. Older standbys and singles that were played out well over a decade ago mixed with Linkin Park or whatever sounds like them, verses 98.7 taking more chances (by commerical radio standards) with some new and fresher acts. Granted, neither of these stations are as good as Indie 103.1 was, or as varied in it's musical selection like KCRW, but KROQ needs to either get with the program and bring fresher sounds (and not just on weekends at odd times when no one is listening) or face that fact that they are becoming closer and closer to becoming that aging middle-aged guy that occasionally makes ackward attempts to prove it's "cool and with it"... after all, it's not 1996 anymore.

Ohh WOW, geez WOW, Yeah 2011's headliner was Lincoln Park, but they also had the Strokes, Foo Fighters, Bad Religion, and Cage the Elephant. 2010 had Stone Temple Pilots, Spoon, and Devo. So yeah worst lineup I've seen in years.

That makes sense. I remember Jed the Fish playing an old AFI live staple I would have never expected to hear on the radio (yeah I like/used to like those guys)
