Thread: Radiohead?

    Default Re: Radiohead?

I actually just had a friend ask me to make them a Radiohead playlist to act as a crash course before Coachella. I spent a good amount of time on this playlist. I looked at 5 different Radiohead setlists from their current tour to try and make sure I included a lot of songs that you're likely to hear at Coachella. Everything on this playlist they've played recently. Since they've been playing a lot more songs from more recent albums, the playlist reflects that. Also tried to make sure it flowed nicely so it's not just purely chronological. I've tried to introduce people to Radiohead by giving them a specific album but sometimes they zone out on the particular feel of that album so the contrast between songs from different albums helps AND is more representative of the live show. You can pretty much go on Spotify and recreate this playlist except that their album In Rainbows isn't on Spotify so you'll have to actually grab that from somewhere else.

Runtime is 1 hour and 12 minutes.

This thread confuses me. Are there people (I mean, the kind of people who would be inclined to buy a Coachella ticket) actually unfamiliar with Radiohead's catalogue? Is Radiohead becoming Dad rock?

I highly recommend viewing "Radiohead - Live From the Astoria" DVD. It's right before the Bends was released. I would die if they closed Coachella with Blowout. Holy hell.

I believe the OP is unfamiliar with Radiohead. Isn't that sad? And god no, Radiohead is not becoming Dad rock. I am an 18yo female and I love Radiohead. Then again I do like a lot of music that my generation does not listen to. Ugh I hope they're not becoming Dad rock. 'Tis a sad day when that happens.

this isn't a good recommendation since they will never play most of it ever again.

Nothing is wrong with Dad rock, they just don't belong in that category. They're not like any of the other typical Dad rock bands. Of course I am basing this off of my own personal experience with Dad rock. And Radiohead still has a large young following. It may not be as strong as it was in the 90's but it's still there. For example, I get shit when I tell people I love Bob Dylan. They say he's Dad music and that his voice is shitty. I tend to disagree with that, but nevertheless I don't think I'd ever hear someone say, "Radiohead is Dad music." Haha.

Creep is a classic song of the 90s

You know it will be on the Time Life edition of "Long Hair: Alternative Rock n Roll from the 90s" - pitched by Dick Clarke

Who cares if they are Dad rock (even though they definitely aren't). Two of the best headliner sets at Coachella IMO were McCartney and Waters. Dads often know what's up.

Good, we need another Radiohead thread. I think the OP is actually Thom Yorke trying to feel better about himself.

Anyways, my favorite Radiohead albums in order are:

    In Rainbows
    Kid A
    Ok Computer
    Amnesiac
    Hail to The Thief
    King of Limbs
    The Bends
    Pablo what?

Probably not the best starting point, but Kid A is the best (and my favorite album of all time), then comes OK Computer. Then King of Limbs and Amnesiac. The Hail to the Thief. Then the Bends, the In Rainbows, then Pablo.

With all that said, I'm a fucking huge Radiohead fan and I know so many people love In Rainbows, but, as you can see, it's not may fav. Anyone wanna take a crack at trying to explain to me what I'm missing? Is it that those who love OKC the most, also love In Rainbows, while those on the Kid A side, don't? I really don't get it. (Not that In Rainbows is bad, but relative to their other work, it just doesn't really stack up, IMO).
    Darkside (1/25)
    Oneohtrix Point Never (2/7)
Four Tet (3/7) / Voices from the Lake (live) (3/7)
    London Grammar (3/25)
    Trentemoller (4/5)
    Factory Floor (4/15)
    Coachella (4/18-4/20)
    Haxan Cloak (5/15)

I heard they're gonna play this on loop for 2 hours... part of a new "experimental" approach that they talked about in an interview recently about their upcoming Coachella gigs:

I like them all just fine. Weird Fishes is probably my favorite, followed closely by House of Cards. But neither of those tracks would rank ahead of a single track on Kid A or OkC, IMO. They're good but just not Radiohead great. Though, listening to Weird Fishes now, and all right, damn, that's one fine track. But I stand by my statement that it couldn't take the place of anything on Kid A.
