The last great reunion that can possibly happen.
Would be great if they headlined Coachella 2013.

The Smiths, Talking Heads, Husker Du & GnR still haven't reunited
Would be a cool reunion, but headliner? meh

I absolutely love Dire Straits, they've been one of my favorite bands for years, but they are right there with Clapton and Fleetwood for me in terms of "Awesome, but wouldn't work at Coachella", unless there is a chance that they could be billed low enough to get off main (not remotely likely). A Mark Knopfler solo set on the Outdoor might work, but even then there are better festivals for that (I hate to say it, but Bonnarroo, also Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Sasquatch, etc).
Oh helllllllllll yes. As a sub-headliner though. Don't want people to bitch incessantly about them as a headliner.
if they rolled around onstage in their own diarrhea I'd watch for a couple minutes

jeez, MTV really fueled that band's record sales. Most likely more than any one else. I did like "Action Motion" sports blooper one, but wouldn't really care to hear it live.
The fact that they sold 32 million albums doesn't mean they could headline.
Alanis Morrisette is the next on that list at 32 million and no way she could ever headline.
DS would be epic, though it sounds a pipe dream
Hey at your festival AND mine they are headliners. I'm 27 and friends of mine just a few years younger didn't grow up listening to them. I don't see them being a headliner at Coachella. They are not quite on the level of "living legend" as Paul McCartney or Roger Waters or Prince as far as the Coachella demographic is concerned.
All true, and all irrelevant. These things are driven by business, not taste.
I understand the hypotheticals make this all a bit absurd, but consider this thought experiment: IF Dire Straits were to reunite and play Coachella, THEN please explain to me how Mark Knopfler would sign a contract for anything below headline status. 32 million records sold, you think he'll play for 10 grand in an afternoon slot in the Gobi?
If you aren't in the McCartney slot, you're in the afternoon Gobi slot.
If there's Coachella to be had, I'm gonna have it
