Default Goldenvoice has Purchased The Polo Fields

Well how bout that.. Looks like Coachella isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

    http://info.eldoradopoloclub.com/201...s.aspx?ref=rss

Goldenvoice, the promoters of the Coachella Festival and Stagecoach Festival have purchased the land from Lake Farms and Polo will continue as before with more player management participation, mirroring Santa Barbara Polo Club.

The new ownership will only enhance the beauty of our club without interfering with Eldorado Polo Club operations.

The sport of polo and Goldenvoice's need for grass provides the perfect combination for this new ownership. More media exposure will provide more polo participation both on the field and off. There will be more exciting news to follow......stay tuned!

So while Eldorado is purchased, what about Empire? Don't you need both to "secure" the location?

I wonder if this means they will attempt more events and shows going forward.

^What, that they have purchased only a fraction of the site? I guess if push comes to shove they can just have a "Campingchella" sleepover sans stages except for campground entertainment.

This purchase has all the markings of an evil corporate take-over. I like it.

    Paul has contacted the goat.

We are going to be doing a car camping festival. Things are getting weird.

They still have to go thru the city council if they wanted to add more weekends, correct?

I assume they'll have to get the proper permits for any event they want to throw. I really don't think it will be an issue for them.

Lets say GV wanted to do the following:

    Coachella weekend 1
    Coachella weekend 2
    stagecoach weekend 1
    stagecoach weekend 2
single artist festival like phish/metallica or metal only event
october coachella type event(EDM only maybe?)

All they'd have to do is get a couple permits? Getting the 3 weekends will be easy for the foreseeable future, but I could see some serious kickback from well-heeled neighbours in the area that would hate the extra traffic and noise.

I am sure it would ruffle the feathers of some of the residents close by and a few citizens in Indio and nearby towns. But considering how much money Goldenvoice brings to the area annually in April (and sometimes early May), I am sure Indio and the surrounding towns are going to be open to the idea of more events if Goldenvoice continues to help the local economy and addresses the issues that inevitably pop up just about every year (logistics, traffic, etc.). With a deal for Coachella in place for the long term, the purchase of property surrounding the Empire Polo Field and the popularity of Coachella / Stagecoach at an all time high, it is feasible that Goldenvoice will eventually capitalize on the current potential it now possesses.

There have been more events at the Polo Fields outside of Coachella / Stagecoach / The Big 4. Outside of the Pearl Jam concert in '93, the two that come to mind are Nocturnal Wonderland 2000 and Phish Festival 8 in 2009. I think a few one and two-day events later in the year are certainly possible.

I do wonder how realistic it is to use the Polo Fields for large events July through September given the heat.

Off topic, but whatever happened to Goldenvoice's deal to put on a festival in the Great Park in Irvine? Does that still remain a possibility?

Seems like more of an inevitability than a possibility. I don't think Irvine took bids on the lease just to have the park sit unused. The only way that it won't happen is if Goldenvoice outbid the competition just to prevent the competition... but since the city is expecting to make a pretty penny off the deal, I'm sure that it's required that GV actually throw events there at some point in the near future.

It might take a year or two to get the site up to festival shape via landscaping(?!?!) and access to ammenities to host a mini city for a weekend.

While GV will keep the double-chella, I think it'd be smarter to have two events(same lineup) near LA the same weekend on different sites like Reading/Leeds. Easier booking, but it can't have people going to both festivals.

I've wondered if they doubled up only to brag about being "bigger" than Bonnaroo and Lolla in the US.
