Just caught their live set for Winter Music Conference in Miami.

Here's the story: It's part of their Diamonds' 07 tour with Digweed. Show's schedueled for 10 - 7 am. Naturally I expect MSTRKRFT to open. It's about 12:10 and the crowd starts clapping, I look up and see John Digweed jamming out. Considering that I had work the next morning and Digweed's a notorious marathon set man, I got pretty upset, thinking that I wouldn't catch them at all.

An hour into his set, I get bored and walk to the tiny back room of the club, where another DJ is rocking away. The other DJ's pretty damn good, playing mad Justice and Digitalism. It's about 1:45 when all of a sudden, I see Jeese F. Keeler's ridiculously mustached head pop out of the back of the tiny DJ set. They set up the iBook and start popping away at the exact time Digweed is playing.

I get ecstatic, there's only 30-40 people in the room, as everyone's bugging out to Digweed in the front. It felt like a private party and they seriously KILLED. Very frantic and very dope. Much better than I expected.

I saw them on the Diamonds tour as well.. MSTRKRFT tore it up, while Digweed
was on the dull side.

MSTRKRFT drove us nuts a couple of weeks ago in Phoenix. They started with the Para One remix of Work On You and ended with their remix of Monster Hospital and in between played 90 minutes of insanity. They broke off some Daft Punk* midway and the shit hit the fan.

Then Digweed came on and ruined EVERYTHING.

Talked briefly with them afterwards and Jesse said he's very excited for the Coachella set. He also told us that they (affectionately) refer to John Digweed as "Grandpa" since he's been spinning for 100 years. At that point I bit my tongue.

*LA in July, anyone?

Not technically in the PHX. It was the Diamonds Tour w/ Digweed on March 7th @ Axis/Radius/DoucheCentral.

I was at the Axis/Radius show...it is a shit place, agreed. MSTRKRFT got a pretty good reception, nothing as much as Digweed, but MSTRKRFT were much better...can't wait for Coachella.

It's kind of unsettling to hear Digweed spoken about in such harsh terms. His Sydney mix for Global Underground is probably my favorite DJ mix even 5 years on. Has he just gotten stale? I've never gotten to see him live but he and Sasha have tons of goodwill from me based on their mixes from years ago, both together and individually. It's a shame if he's become played out.

I respect Digweed's exceptional mixing, he's one of the best. I just wasn't feeling the music as much as MSTRKRFT's set. The digweed set did seem a bit stale, maybe it was just me, but the crowd was definitely moving for Digweed.

for the most part its all house/electro jams like their own music (daft, green velvet, para one, justice, etc.)...they dished out their own remix of Metric's "Monster Hospital" when I saw them, that was about the only indie remix I heard.
