Default It's raining beloved childhood memories...

I understand that Michael Bay is a shit director but holy fuck does this take him to a whole 'nother level of shittiness.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...=entertainment

Fans of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise may want to sit down while reading this. Michael Bay, who is producing the new live action "NInja Turtles" movie, dropped by the Nickelodeon Upfront in New York to talk about the new project. The producer is promising fans an epic return-to-form for the sewer-dwelling masked heros.

But then Bay dropped quite the bombshell: he may be changing up the Turtles' origins.

"These turtles are from an alien race," he said, "And they're going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable."

Until now they were referred to as mutant ninja turtles, not alien ninja turtles. For fans of the comics, the traditional backstory for the "Ninja Turtles" is that they were regular turtles who mutated after being exposed to a radioactive substance.

Needless to say, the fans are not too pleased with Bay for changing the origins of the beloved "Ninja Turtles."

"So will they be changing the title?," asked one Reddit user. "I mean, 'TMNT' doesn't really apply anymore ... Maybe they could be Teenage Alien Interstellar Ninja Turtles?"

However, another Reddit user pointed out that if the Turtles were in fact aliens -- and not nuchuck-wielding ninjas -- perhaps they would have developed more sophisticated weaponry:

"If they're aliens then why would they be ninjas!?!? They would have laser guns and lightsabers and junk! They wouldn't need to be ninjas! Michael Bay is the destroyer of worlds!"

Despite public fan outcry, Bay believes that the alien "Ninja Turtles" could inspire a whole new generation of kids to believe in Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael again.

"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie."

That's like the Swedish House Mafia fans calling us hipsters for not enjoying their "mixes."

There's been so much done to this property over the years, i am also surprised people give such a big fuck. The CG movie a few years ago was really good, i'll stick with that one as my TMNT movie.

I will endorse any plan as long as they bring these back (or an "alien" version)

I'll bet the fans of the Eastman and Laird books in the 80s were just as traumatized by the television show interpretation as most of the dolts outcrying about this movie are.

the outcry IMO has (or should have) less to do with tainting an established franchise as much as it is
    A) even more absurd than the mutant story (as absurd as that already is). Not sure how they intend to incorporate the alien origin, but are we to assume that these aliens just happen to look like humanoid versions of earth turtles, complete with carapaces and plastrons? That fantastic of a coincidence is completely ridiculous compared to a mutagenic ooze altering turtle phsyiology (nevermind the the fact that mutated turtle DNA could only really affect offspring in such a way. I mean c'mon, Lamarkism was debunked long ago. The original TMNT writers look downright foolish).

    B) it's just a ploy to add more special effects. I want substance in my ninja turtle films.

Reminds me of that Superman reboot that never got off the ground. The one where Anthony Hopkins was Jor-El on a Naboo-like Krypton that never exploded and Lex Luthor was an alien.
