Personal Landmarks?

As most of us know, its a huge bitch to try and find people in the middle of crowds, or anywhere really. That said, I wanted to bring something that I could hold up in the air, like a stick with a crazy light on it, that could notify my friends where I am.

I was wondering what the limitations were to this... If anyone can help me out, that'd be great.

Additionally, if anyone has some good ideas as to what they would like to bring/make, post some pics! I think there are some pretty creative people on this board and it'd be cool to see what you come up with.

A totem is an important part of any group, but it should also be respectful to everyone around, hence coachella not allowing flags/banners. You don't want to be that asshole.

My group is large enough to have many totems, so this year we are doing 18in long, clear foam with micro LEDs inside, then taping black letters down it. They are easy to hold, carry inside, and wont piss anyone off around us, perfect.

Oh and its patented by me so don't do it....... well not really but it would just be confusing lol

Our group had a light saber so don't take that or at least get a red one, just not blue, it worked wonderfully and we always found each other at sets. Word of warning, on one particular night some dick of a security guard didn't let us take in a toy light saber, I imagine things like a Pink Flamingo

Helium balloons, don't know how long they'd last though if you brought them in on Thursday. Else just do the meet at the left hand side of the stage by the set times trick.

Anyway, you may not understand the use of totems; but its much more practical than a text message or trying to call someone. Sure the cell service has improved over the years, but it is still shite in comparison to seeing an obvious landmark

^ for true. Previous years have been horrific for cell usage. Last couple not so much at least for me. I usually go by entrance to tent and tell friend to wave hands in the air like they are drowning. For example:

Text: "where the fuck are you?!
Response: "second entrance opening from stage left side of tent."
Me: "ok. wave hands in air like a dumbass. Be there in a few."

If everybody uses the dead baby on a stick thing doesn't it become less and less effective.....? We use meeting points that are always predetermined like in 2010 we would always meet at the oragami bird before a main stage set or we would meet at the back of the sahara where the tent reaches the apex....also at night a glow stick on a little rope swing it around above your head, I know seems like lots of people would do this but it worked wonders...just gotta watch for people walking into you haha

heres a tip,
dont use other people's totems to mark your group.
Last year I left my group to check up on some other people, noticed the group next to ours had a balloon so told myself "OK, come back to the balloon."
Left to check on the other people, came back 5 minutes later, no fucking balloon.
Spent the next 20 mins looking for my group

What do you guys use for poles that aren't really annoying to haul around all day?

When I was at ACL I saw all of the totems and really thought that it would have made things way easier if we had those, but they all looked really bulky
