i had half a handle of jack daniels at the hotel saturday night, not planning for the hot day the next day or that we had to checkout and drive home sunday night. checked out at 11 and drove to the fields, where fortunately, i had an artist pass so i could go and sleep in the shaded grass backstage for several hours. oh how bad i must've smelled with the jd oozing out of my pores. took 3 redbulls to have enough energy to drive home.

My favorite thing about that insanely hot Saturday in 2007 was this particularly inspired fashion choice by Colin Meloy:



I recall leaving that set early to get over to Arcade Fire. The Kings of Leon were finishing up on the main stage; their lead singer was shirtless in classic bro fashion. It was certainly a sign of things to come for the Kings of Leon.

That set was Phase 1 in my realization that the Decemberists suck. I thought I was a fan up til then. ACL a few years later sealed the deal.

I would take a Decemberists set over a Shins set any day. The Decemberists are at least fun...I almost fell asleep at The Shins and I've been waiting to see them for years. The latter reminded me of seeing Death Cab. I literally asked my friends over and over, "Didn't they already play this? No, really...isn't this the same song?"

Friday week 1 was just perfect for me, seeing Pulp in the very short lived but full blown rain just felt right. Snuggling up in the tent with all my besties Thu and Fri against the elements was so fucking fun and a welcome change from our usual stinky, melty, dehydratey norm.

I brought my beloved Portishead beanie and Def Jux hoodie and was warm and toasty all fest. And Sunday was easily the most gorgeous day I've ever spent at any of my 6 Coachellas.

Weekend 1 again next year for fuckin certain!

On a seperate but related note. Unless Dre brings out a Biggie hologram, weekend 2ers don't get to feel that same stunned drugged elation that we did when mutherfucking Tupac appeared! Radiohead should add No Surprises to the weekend 2 setlist ahahaha!
