Well, hopefully after Thursday the winds will die down a little bit.

Ain't this some shit. You can bet the whole Sugarland catastrophe is on everyone's mind... Hoping for the best but that mass of clouds barreling down looks ominous. It's a wind tunnel through there, hence the windmills.
How accurate are wind reports, about the same as rain predictions? I find rain forecasts in Cali to be iffy, never really paid attention to how often the wind advisories came through as true, though.
they are DEAD ON! I live here and the wind last night was fucking out of control. You could have offered me $20 to stand outside for 3 min. and I'd said 'Fuck you!'
it's just getting started. As these storms get close the wind blows hard....as the storm hits it dies down and if we get rain it's normally gone...but in this case they are back to back...in my experience these are the fucking worst because what was 40 mph winds which are fucking out of control now will be 60 mph winds which are dangerous.
There won't be an ounce of wind during the day...it'll start at 2-3pm at light winds then pick up...by 5 pm it'll be getting rough...by 7:30 you'll be headed inside...by 9pm it'll be fucking bad....by 10 pm it's a fucking nightmare that you won't want to be in....and it gets worse till about 2 am...then tapers off.
It's interesting you mention the other fest where the stage fell down. Friday should be a tad lighter...but the prob is Thursday night.
If I was camping I'd get a hotel close by Indio tonight and be one of the first in lines Thurs to set up...have a great day and be ready.
Stop by Home Depot and get the large stakes in the outside garden area....they are metal about 6 inches long.....your tent will hold.
Very good advice, baily. I'm definitely going to come prepared.
i am STRESSING about this wind thing... 1/10 of an inch of rain sounds awesome, but 50 mph gusts, not so much.
dude....that's like someone in Alaska saying 'it's gonna be fucking cold'
I live here....if you want I'll video some of the wind tonight and post it....
I'm not fearmongering.....It'd be easier to say nothing and sit back and watch...but figured I'd help those who want to know.
There's a light breeze now and a small bit of rain came through....nothing to be concerned over....
I'm telling you ...it's not the rain you should care about...it's the wind.
Thursday mainly
it may be gone by friday...Friday night may be awesome with no wind...but I will bet the farm that Thurday night is fucking wind storm that none of ya'll have ever seen in your life...and probably won't ever again.
It's rare that we get back to back storms...but having lived here for so many years I can tell you the wind that it'll produce is out of control...
In regards to hotels....tonight...you'll be fine....Thurs tough...Friday & Sat...not happening..
Dude I really appreciate the heads up you're giving us. I stayed at the Morongo casino years ago when a freak rain / wind storm hit, and it was like a hurricane out there! It was one thing to witness it from the confines of the hotel tower... actually CAMPING in it, holy shit.
I love extreme shit. This'll be intense.
Like they say in Finland: there's no bad weather, just bad clothing.

Weather.com shows max windspeed at 18 MPH. That windstorm advisory started yesterday and should be passed by the weekend. I trust weather.com. Living in Chicago I basically check that shit daily.

alright. I'm arriving tomorrow at 1pm. Because of the wind, any thoughts on waiting until Friday to set up my canopy?
Again...wind will be an issue Thurs night...prob fine the rest.
things I just read online were to use your car as a shield....wind will be coming WEST to EAST ....so park your car to block the wind.
ffffffffffff I'm driving up Thursday night. The wind on that twisty fucking mountain road is going to be fun
This might be the only year I choose to take the long way in.

I am driving up Thursday night as well, arriving around 10pm which sounds like a horrible time to arrive but it is what it is. I am coming up from San Diego, any driving tips for that kind of wind?
