Wayne, I thought you were kidding when you mentioned Ke$ha lol...

Available April 21st, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends contains 13 collaborative tracks, many of which are previously unreleased. In addition to previously-heard efforts with Neon Indian, Prefuse 73, and Lightning Bolt, the compilation packs new collaborations with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Bon Iver, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Nick Cave, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Yoko Ono, Erykah Badu, and Biz Markie. Check out the full tracklist below.

The limited-edition album will be pressed on two high-quality, multi-color 12″ vinyl discs, housed in separate custom art jackets and poly bagged together. A press release states that no two discs will look exactly alike and cautions that this will be on the only pressing.

In addition to the compilation, The Lips have also teamed with Mastodon for a split 7″ single as part of the Side by Side 2012 Series available exclusively for Record Store Day. One side features The Lips’ Soft Bulletin track “Spoonful Weighs a Ton”, while the flip-side contains Mastodon’s cover of it.

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends Tracklist:
    Side 1:
    01. 2012 (feat. Ke$ha and Biz Markie)
    02. Ashes In The Air (feat. Bon Iver)
    03. Helping The Retarded To Know God (feat. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros)

    Side 2:
    04. Supermoon Made Me Want To Pee (feat. Prefuse 73)
    05. Children Of The Moon (feat. Tame Impala)
    06. That Ain’t My Trip (feat. Jim James of My Morning Jacket)
    07. You, Man? Human? (feat. Nick Cave)

    Side 3:
    08. I’m Working At NASA On Acid (feat. Lightning Bolt)
    09. Do It! (feat. Yoko Ono)
    10. Is David Bowie Dying? (feat. Neon Indian)

    Side 4:
    11. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (feat. Erykah Badu)
    12. Thunder Drops (feat. New Fumes)
    13. I Don’t Want You To Die (feat. Chris Martin of Coldplay)

8/19 Run the Jewels @ Sir Stage 37

Fucking christ, the Vanguard reissues get better each year. I want all of these, but that Skip James record is something else. I pity the poor soul who stands between me and that record.

Yep. The Bat for Lashes records the last two years were UK exclusives, and I imagine this one will be, too. Still need to find "Let's Get Lost", but it's always too expensive on ebay and discogs whenever I remember to look.

Yes, though they will not receive nearly the quantity that the Coachella Zia store will get. That, and not all stores get all releases, but Amoeba is big enough that they likely will get at least one of everything. I think, anyway, I've never had to do RSD away from Coachella.

    I'll be in touch.

The AC release (Transverse Temporal Gyrus) is very, very psychedelic. As you likely have read, it's a couple tracks from their Guggenheim installation of 2010. Dave sings a little during the beginning of Side A (12:48), and there is no melody. Very organic sounding with some guitar and animal-like samples in the beginning. Then it gets distinctly darker and trippier as the song goes on. Side B (14:00) starts out on the dark ambient side with a little bit of singing by Dave (maybe Noah too...hard to tell) then Noah kicks in with a bit of harmony from Dave followed by really tripped-out, space-like samples with a teeny bit of vocal melody at the very end.

I think I like Side A better than Side B. I bet AC fans will dig it. I can't wait for a higher-res copy of this.

I am friends with a guy who owns a record shop here and he usually gets a bunch of Record Store Day releases. I just sent him a message to see if he knows what he is getting in yet... I really want The White Stripes, The Shape of Punk to Come reissue, and The Flaming Lips 2LP releases.

My local record store had copies of a Record Day Store-branded Coachella guidebook and 17-track sampler cd. Kind of a cool little curio item; some interviews with artists about their plans for Coachella, etc. etc.

    Classic Black Keys Q&A:

Q: It took you pretty much ten years after your first album to headline Coachella. What's the next logical towering achievement for the Black Keys in . . . . 2022?

DA: Have a sandwich named after us at a regional fast food restaurant.
PC: Not wearing our guitar player magazine shirts on stage.

At Coachella they usually have most of the stuff out on Friday. I got in there right as the gates opened last year and was able to get everything that I wanted. And then it subsequently warped in the heat. Bully!

See this what I'm worried about. I need to figure something out... Gotta leave them in the car or something with a cooling system in place...

Apparently the Entreat thing is not an RSD "exclusive", but will be released on the 21st for RSD? CDUniverse and ElusiveDisc both have preorders, but this is probably about the 10th time I've seen listings for this over the past couple years...

All those other Cure goodies are great, but I think those are just UK record store day things, sadly.

I think I'm going to have the store at Coachella hang onto my purchases and ship them to me. Can I trust them to take care of them and not subject them to warping? Ugh. I'm kind of not happy about being at Coachella during RSD.

Fleetwood Mac's self titled 1975 release is getting the same treatment Rumours got last year. (2x45, and 1x33). Need.

Yeah, that's what I should have done. You can even have them hold your records thru sunday and take them with you, but I'm sure shipping is easier than worrying about taking them on a flight.
