Default Are people going to "Register" their Wristband?

I was just reading up on the Wristband Registration and I wondered if people were going to sign up for that? Other than checking in on Facebook, I don't really see the point. There was some discussion on boards way earlier about linking a credit card to the wristband, but I don't see anything on the site about that.

Not really sure I want GV tracking my location at Coachella. Think I will start a poll.

Please send me the thread think if this had already been discussed. When I do a search for "Wristband Registration" it tells me: "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search" Not sure how else to search.

This pretty much eliminates the chance of counterfeiting. Looks like you could use this tool to check if your wristband is fake too.

What's optional this year may be required in future years.

What next? GPS tracking devices in wristbands? I'll probably still register though...

Most of your important information is probably already available, especially if you have a FB account. Adding what shows you saw at Coachella to that data is a minor issue.

Plus it can't literally track you on the field, you'd have to actually wave your wrist over a scanner to "check in" at a stage. Even if it operates smoothly, sounds like a lot of effort for most people. I do like the idea of discounts and upgrades...in theory.

I like to pretend that I want privacy and all that, but with how much I'm on the Internet and social media sites, I'm pretty much already completely profiled by FB and such. I'll probably register mine in the hopes of getting some upgrades or prizes, but I won't link my FB account. Plus, I never "check-in" anywhere and have disabled friends on FB from doing so to me.

Gotta be real dumb to worry about this considering you have already given them your credit card info.

I'll probably go ahead and do it. I am pretty unlikely to "check in" at stages or any of that unless they make it overwhelmingly convenient, but am not really concerned with GV or their partners having one more piece of data.

You guys do know they can already track you without registering the pass. They already have your info tied to the wristbands you purchased all they would need to do is turn on some wifi connection to track you. Signing up throug FB or whatever is probably just giving them legal confirmation to do it.

Don't know ow well it would work wit 70,000 people all around, but it is possible.

heh, paranoid people, they will probably collect all the data, analyze it and make a even better weekend next year.

discounts sound nice. I heard when you register your wristband you get discounts on food and beer. $1 off beer sounds great to me.

Are you talking specifically about Coachella wristbands?

Because RFID chips do work like that. That is one of their main uses.

I'm not a Facebook lemming, so there's no point in registering mine. I'm fully prepared to show documentation of my wristband purchase, in the event of any fraudulent activity.

what if your RFID stops working after you went to camp to dose up for radiohead (or something similar)?

I'm going to be registering and will be trying out this checking-in feature, very interested as a web developer and a frequent "checker".

RFID will only be able to be tracked if you go to an RFID scanner and scan yourself in.

Assuming there will be long lines of people wanting to scan their wrists for stuff, I probably won't. I am going to register it anyway, because I don't like in the dark ages and am not scared of a magic computer box.

Don't worry, you won't be tracked until you decide you want to scan yourself. Basically, on your consent.

Yes, a main use of RFID is tracking inventory, but you're wrong...it doesn't work at all like wifi.
