Thread: Governors Ball Music Festival

Last year was a muddy disaster I read. One thing these east coast fests will never have is California weather , beautiful polo fields, and camping on site. If you have to fly to go this compared to drive to coachella I think it's a huge mistake.
    Spicy pie is mainstream shit.

What about Killer Mike? There are a couple festival spots on Outkast's tour that feature longtime friend and collaborator Killer Mike in Run the Jewels. Could there be a possible surprise performance on "The Whole World": "Anything is possible," says Big Boi.
“I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle.” “We may make it back in for an album following that.”

I think it's very likely. I saw Big Boi last spring and he had Killer Mike out with him for a few songs, including "The Whole World".

I like this lineup and am considering going for the first time this year. Any tips for a noob flying in from out of state? It looks like last year there were four stages and only two acts overlap at the same time all day - Is that the plan for this year? The weather/mud seems to be the main factor from last year.

    Will there be overlapping sets?

It'll be just like last year. 4 stages and two acts performing at any one time. So you'll always have two choices. We do our best to counterprogram as well. -YR

Flew out for it last year, had a blast in spite of the crazy weather. We rented a spot on airbnb in the east village (had some friends who lived nearby) and took the subway up to harlem every day. All in all the commute was ~1 hour each way. At the end of the fest you will be stuck in the hoards if you are walking so maybe look into the ferry if that is still an option.

As far as programming goes, the two at a time policy is great. The grounds are pretty small so you won't have an issue getting across the grounds and will be able to catch a lot of music.

The fest attendees are ok, a decent mix with a lot of foreigners chain smoking cigs walking around, expected for a big event in NYC. They also sell huge cans of fosters which are great for drinking until they get warm, then they are great for shaking up and spraying beer everywhere during the drop in Inhaler.

I'll be at Pro Era then Peanut Butter Wolf that night. With advanced tickets being sold out already, I would get there at least an hour before the door opens! The Panther Room (Funktion-One system too) is really small so unless you want to be crammed in there, I would stick with ?uestlove across the street at Brooklyn Bowl

ps You'll enjoy Verboten too. If you're up on Sunday for brunch, you should hit this up: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?599880 or Output will be announcing a rooftop party for that weekend as well.

That's why getting to see the first show is a little more special, you fucking shit-for-brains. I also don't argue, nor care which weekend is "better". I tend to prefer weekend one because I want to go to Coachella when the grass is still green and that's when my friends and I have agreed on each year, but maybe I will go to weekend two one year.

I would recommend you see Damon as it feels like you'll probably get more chances in the future to see Outkast. When I saw Damon he played a good selection of Gorillaz songs and a couple Blur songs in addition to stuff off his new album, which sounded excellent live. It was one of the best shows I've been to this year. We all know Damon doesn't play the US much so I'd jump on an opportunity to see him again if I could.

i am excited for Damon's set, he is probably the biggest/only reason i'm going on Friday. I saw Outkast this year at weekend one so i'm good there...i was really anticipating to see the crowd on the east coast vs the west just because i felt that the crowd was kinda lame imo at coachella.
