Good at the beginning of the day but later on it is really spotty and even text messages take quite some time to go through mostly due to the number of people on the network.

Most worthless 3g, 4g, LTE on earth but you'll have it.

Don't rely on it after 4pm or so. Set up designated meet points.

It's pretty bad, but apparently Verizon is better than AT&T.
Walkies don't really work. There are so many people on every channel that it's pretty much impossible to communicate w/ your people. Plus there's no way if you can hear if you're by a stage, and you also don't want a walkie on speaker all weekend.

Basically just text all weekend. And concrete texts, no "where are you." More like "Meet me at this specific location at 5:50 pm." You don't want any texts that require a response or conversation. And give the texts ample time to go through, sometimes it's immediate, sometimes it's a few hours.

Well it is important to know if you plan on meeting up with friends and such. If you are depending on it and then it does not work that would suck.

Set up times and a meeting point before going in. Give it 10 minutes, if people are there, cool. If not, try again at another designated time.

I completely agree but if you did not know that your cell phone was going to not work you may not have made these plans ahead of time thus the op's question

You wont want to carry around walkies, trust me. Set a meeting point every few hours or so. Example: if you and your friends are at the sahara about to watch Knife Party, tell them, "If we get separated, meet in front of the nearest porto-potties after the show is over" or whatever. You'll need to continuously change meet up points due to scheduling. Youre not gonna want to leave your favorite artist mid-set just to meet your friend because you got separated. Plan. Plan. Plan. Plan-da-man. Bangarang...heh
