Gonzalez also went 1-5 and has horrible career numbers at Dodger stadium (I think his career average there is .217). Maybe that will change now that he's actually on the team.

Loney had a game-tying RBI single today.

    Calm down.

If the trade was actually Gonzalez for Loney maybe you'd have some kind of point, but it wasn't and no one thinks there's any comparison between them talent-wise.

We'll see how Beckett does in his first Dodgers start tomorrow. It's in Colorado so it might not go so smoothly.

Well that was absolute diarrhea, but it wasn't really Beckett's fault. I don't know how the fuck this lineup gets shut out in Colorado.

Please no. This would defeat the purpose of everything they just did. Not going to happen.

Don't worry, the Dodgers will trade Kershaw for him and he will go on an 0-20 slump. I'm not bitter or anything, but WTH Dodgers? What a time to go on your monthly slump.

    Sayonara, Strasburg

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals have shut down Stephen Strasburg after a shaky start against the Miami Marlins.

Manager Davey Johnson made the announcement Saturday morning. The Nationals had been monitoring the right-hander's workload, and Johnson says the media attention to his innings was "unbelievable."

Johnson said it was more mental than physical, and it was clear from Strasburg's Friday start that Strasburg didn't have his head in the game.

John Lannan will take Strasburg's spot and start Wednesday against the Mets in New York.

The move comes a day after Strasburg matched his career low by lasting only three innings, allowing five runs in the NL East-leading Nationals' 9-7, 10-inning loss to Miami.

"To be honest with you, I think he just is thinking too much about the decision when we're going to shut him down," Johnson said Friday night. "And he kind of wore it. He didn't like it. But that's the way it is."

Strasburg, 15-6 with a 3.16 ERA, allowed two runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third, giving up six hits -- including home runs to Giancarlo Stanton and Rob Brantly. He threw 67 pitches and was pinch hit for in the third.

In his first full season after elbow-ligament replacement surgery on Sept. 3, 2010, Strasburg will finish with 197 strikeouts in 159 1/3 innings.

"I didn't command the fastball, kept on getting behind in the counts," Strasburg said. "I wasn't able to use my other pitches effectively and they kept teeing off on me a little bit."

The Nationals, wanting to protect the arm of the 24-year-old right-hander, had earlier said Wednesday likely would be his final appearance of the season, though Washington is likely to see postseason baseball for the first time since the original Senators in 1933.

Strasburg received a lengthy standing ovation from fans as he jogged out to the mound for what turned into a 23-pitch first inning.

Johnson said Strasburg may have been distracted by the shutdown talk.

"I can understand where he's at," Johnson said Friday. "And even in the conversations that I've had with him, he was having trouble sleeping, thinking about letting the guys down. So I understand his mood."
Perhaps this period of quiet contemplation will give him the wisdom to realize it's probably time to get rid of the nu-metal goatee.

Padres have probably been the best team in the division the past two months or so. It's nice to see young talent coming through the system and actually producing. Grandal is an absolute star in the making, I just love the way he carries himself. Headley's WAR is the second best for third baseman in the majors, Forsythe looks solid and seems like a gamer, Maybin has hit over .300 since the all star break after making adjustments to his swing mechanics, and if you ever tune in and watch a Padres game when Tony Gwynn is announcing you should hear him talk about Yonder Alonso. He loves that kids swing. Plus we have pitchers getting healthy and Gyorko getting called up sometime next year.

Not sure if you've seen this video, but sometimes it's good to be a Padre fan. Not often, but sometimes

The A-Rod thing was hilarious, too. I also liked Mark Teixeira in a full body cast.

It is October. The Yankees will be playing three games against the Red Sox that the Yankees will need in order to win the AL East and avoid a potentially devastating series of one-game tiebreaker and wild card games. This is the lineup the Sox are trotting out tonight:

    2B Pedro Ciriaco (.290)
    LF Daniel Nava (.247)
    RF Cody Ross (.269)
    1B Mauro Gomez (.273)
    DH Ryan Lavarnway (.170)
    C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (.225)
    3B Danny Valencia (.193)
    CF Che-Hsuan Lin (.111)
    SS Jose Iglesias (.123)

    The world is crazy.
