For me the "we made the playoffs" argument breaks down simply because the Angels had a better record than Detroit. If anything, the argument helps Trout because LAA had a losing record for the part of the season when their front office thought "hey, so we've got this all world kid, but we're already paying Vernon Wells good money." 6-14 before Trout, 83-59 after he was called to the show.

Ruin what for who? I hated the American League when the Diamondbacks won the world series. If you can't field you shouldn't be playing baseball.

EDIT* I had to point out my distaste for the AL because a few people suggested last night that I'm a Tigers fan simply because I think Cabrera deserves MVP.

Keep in Mind Trout didn't play the first 20 games of the season and by that time the Angels were already in a 10 game hole they were never able to get out of. But look at the Angels pre and post Trout. Team Record isn't as important as making the post season obviously but it does show who the better team was during the regular season (which I know has nothing to do with the postseason). I'm not disagreeing that Miguel wins the MVP. MY original point was just saying that Trout deserves it and it will probably be a super close finish for who wins it.

Bobby V was a symptom of the Red Sox problems, not the cause. By the end of it, I almost felt sympathetic for the guy, which is amazing since he's an incredible loudmouth jerk.

I'm an American League guy but this is something I actually agree with.

And was anyone expecting anything other then Bobby V to get fired? I'm surprised they even waited til today to do it.

Exactly. That team would have been garbage with or without Bobby V. Regardless, terrible fucking hire from the get-go.

Yeeeah. The concept of the DH annoys me to no end. Statistical advantage. I'm also one of those guys that actually likes watching pitchers hit though.

Keep it classy, Braves fans. They should be more pissed at their team's sloppy game today.

Cards fan here. That call was mind-blowingly awful, but let's be real... it didn't give us the winning run. We were up by 3 runs because they kept making stupid mistakes all night long. The single game format definitely amplifies the terribleness of the call, though.

i knew this one game bullshit would not play out well for me..... Braves played pretty bad, but its all about momentum this time of year and that call really did play a crucial role in the outcome. Bases loaded w/ one out, or 2nd and 3rd w/ two. It hurts even more knowing i wont ever see Chipper take the field again. Dont even have the heart to watch anymore of the playoffs...... tears wont stop.

it would have been bases loaded 1 out. Brian McCann walks, makes it 6-4. Bourne strikes out, 2 out. Who knows what happens next. It was indeed a terrible call. Still shows how important winning the division is and not having to be put in a Game 7 situation, where anything can happen.

I didn't know the INFIELD fly rule could be called halfway into the OUTFIELD.

Well, read the rule. It can be caught by an outfielder.... but the call was so late, and not within the realm of 'ordinary effort', it was terrible.

It doesn't work that way. If the bases are loaded, there's a good chance they pitch Brian McCann differently. You can't just assume the next couple of at bats would have happened like how they happened. Who's to say McCann wouldn't have grounded into an inning-ending double play? We just don't know. The Braves dug their own hole, that one play was far from the deciding factor.

Agreed. I hate when commentators make that assumption

I feel bad for Ron Washington for some reason. Also, leaving in the top of the 9th in a one game playoff? I know the Rangers haven't been playing great baseball... but four runs is not insurmountable. Stranger things have happened.

INSTANT! Holy fuck! I can not believe what I saw! But it was exactly what I was expecting with him coming in to pinch hit. Wow! Incredible. Yanks were 2 outs away from facing an elimination game with Phil Hughes on the mound.

I HATE Valverde, such a great day when he chokes. So impressive of the As to come back down 2, 3 outs left in their season, score 3 and win it and force a Game 5! Cant wait to see what they do tomorrow!

Yeah I was at the Coluseum last night, the 9th inning was pure magic. Never heard the place get that loud. Hopefully tonight will be even better.

Gotta give some credit to Belushi for starting the rally on the big screen right before that inning:

This was fucking CRAAAAAZY. Screaming at my TV for the 9th inning shot, and the 12th I couldn't even believe it.
