How about you fuckfaces all learn how to cook without it having anything to do with whether or not you want to get laid or date someone you gross monsters?

I realize this is in the dating thread but i want to learn how to cook so I can feed myself something besides TV dinners. If it helps with dating that's a positive spillover effect

Knowing how to cook, I think, can be helpful in spillover to all aspects of your life, dating included.

I've watched every single boyfriend I've had absolutely massacre an attempt to cook a pasta dish. One of them heated alfredo sauce on the stove and just threw the dry pasta into the pan.

It is. People are awful. Give up.

I mean, seriously, when's the last time anyone has had an engaging conversation with a stranger?

I have known how to cook since I was old enough to reach the stove, but I learned recently that I wasn't cooking pasta correctly. I can see where guys could screw that up. The internet has taught me a few things I didn't know about basic cooking and food storage, stuff my mommy didn't teach me.

Guys should also learn to dance, it will definitely earn you some points with the ladies.

    Yes, dancing. Good call.

What sort of dance class should such a guy begin with? It seems a lot of people do salsa these days

I have engaging conversations with strangers plenty. It usually involves alcohol though.

I have a hard time connecting with people right off the bat. Usually takes me seeing someone a few times to really feel comfortable. This doesn't happen very much anymore now that I'm not in school.

i have the opposite problem. i have a hard time staying interested in people after the initial conversation. i love meeting people, i just don't want all of them to become a part of my life forever.

This is why I have decided become a permanent dater. I tend to stay much happier if the relationship doesn't escalate into anything else like living together or marriage.

I think anything that gives you some basic moves and helps you find the beat to the song. Most guys I know refuse to go dancing and when they do get suckered into it, they can't find the beat. Little do they know, even if they make an attempt it will melt most girls hearts. Most girls I know anyway.

Yes. I did come home once to find my ex roommate trying to pan fry hard pasta. So it is more common than I would have thought.

I am starting to feel this way too. I go through phases where I think I want to live with Nick, then other days where I am glad that I don't. I don't know that my reasons for wanting to live with him are the right ones. I think we get along a lot better when we have time to miss each other during the week.

I had been cooking the pasta fully, then rinsing the noodles and pouring the sauce over them. I have since learned to under cook the pasta, then put a bit of the starchy pasta water in the sauce, then put the noodles in the sauce and cook 1-2 minutes in the sauce. My pasta dishes are so much better now.

This is true for me as well. I have really enjoyed having my own home and privacy, and being able to do things my way and on my terms, and then we have a great time when we just hang out on weekends.

To me, that all seems more like taking a vacation together rather than a fully realized relationship. Though, what works is what matters.

When Rey visits, the biggest complaint I have is having to close the bathroom door. But I don't think I would mind living with him when the option becomes available.

As independent as I like to think I am, I am also kind of old school when it comes to relationships. In the past it's always been my home that the boyfriend has moved into, I always felt like they were a guest in my home. So I feel it's my job to feed that person, to do their laundry, to do their shopping, etc. I enjoy doing those things usually, but it's nice that I have a couple days during the week where I can eat a bowl of cereal for dinner and watch really bad reality television without feeling the need to entertain anyone. It might be different if I were to go into a new place with a person, and my mentality is that it's OUR place, maybe...

I was very weary of living with another person and never have until recently. But when Heather and I moved out of our own studio apartments and into a new loft that we could design and make a home out of together last year, it turned out to be really amazing.

I do really cherish any fleeting moment I have totally by myself though. When she goes out of town or out without me just for the day I just stay at home by myself and almost do nothing, because I rarely get the chance to do that anymore.

i really enjoy my alone time. i have lived with someone before where we could both do our own things in the house without annoying each other and i hope to find that again. i didn't grow up with siblings in the home, so i feel "on" whenever someone is in my home and it can be hard to relax sometimes. i also want priority access to the appliances and bathroom lol. i wouldn't mind doing laundry for someone if they wouldn't mind doing heavy lifting or something like that. i don't think i could share a one bedroom again. i need space to retreat to. the sleeping together is the hardest part. i'd probably want a california king. and audra's point about feeling like a guest makes sense. it's always good to pick a spot that's new to you both if you can.

I couldn't share a room with anyone, but the same house/apartment with separate rooms with my dude would be just fine.

Having a 2-bedroom/2 bathroom is definitely key. We sleep in the same bed but we have closets in different rooms, out computer/office set-ups are separate, stuff like that.

This was so true for me and my ex. He moved into my house, and even though we were living together as a couple, he would pick and choose the times that it was my house vs. "our" house. For example, when he asked to use half my garage to build a canoe from scratch (something he knew absolutely nothing about but I suspect he wanted to do it just to bug me), I told him to get fucked, and he said I was being a "dictator" and if we lived together it was his house too. But come time to renovate my yard ( to the tune of $7500.00), mainly due to the damage his dogs had done to the lawn, or a bill came to, service the furnace, let's say... it was "my" house and my financial responsibility. This convenience factor became a major issue with us.
