Oh well, I answered some more questions and messaged 5 other girls I apparently had good compatability. I will not give up until I get at least one date form this damn site. I'm on a mission. It's a numbers game and it's all about how low i'm willing to go on the standards scale. I'm already making concessions on looks land messaging girls who aren't all that attractive....I will NOT make those same concessions on brains and ideals though. I will not date some annoying moron just because I am annoying.

Good for you on messaging more people. OKCupid is just a tool you can use to meet people; it brings a lot more people to your attention. But they won't always come off their best via this method and attraction is about more than looks so it seems to make sense to work towards meeting people, which'll be the best way to see if there's chemistry/attraction/interest.

Mark, I wouldn't give up on the first girl just because she looked at your profile and didn't immediately answer (I do that all the time, crap. It's usually when I don't have time to write a response but am trying to decide whether to just delete the message or reply later). But it's good to send out more messages. It is a numbers game, very much so. Regarding standards, I'm trying to be flexible in the looks department as well -- I'm telling myself that when I am just shopping for guys by photo, I tend to rule out a lot of them, based on looks, that I probably would at least talk to if I'd met them in person first.

i had a major crush on a korean guy at boarding school. he supposedly had something to do with olympic swimming.

we started off as good friends. we'd spend study hall time together hanging-out. he played piano, i'd sing. we'd also just sit and talk.

i started to get a major crush on him, so i had my korean roommate teach me how to write "will you go to the winter formal" with me and left him a note on the chalkboard in english class. he was stunned when he came in, and he said yes.

he wrote me a song to sing while he played the piano, though it was a bit too high for me, i figured that meant he liked me. so i wrote a really heartfelt valentine and left it in his mailbox.

he then told me at lunch in front of other people that he couldn't date an american woman and was mad that i was so forward. we weren't really friends after that and he started dating another korean girl in my dorm.

Yea, generally speaking, I find all races attractive. I've only slept with one latino and one arab, but that's probably just because more haven't wanted to date me.

Honestly -- the size thing is a factor. I'm 5'7 and have some junk in my trunk, so to speak. I'm not going to date a super skinny guy who is 5'4, of any race. That would just be weird. Also, I find that some of the Asian guys here are much more interested in dating a woman from a similar ethnic background because it just makes it SO much easier to bring her home to the family. I went on one date with a guy who straight up told me that -- that he would sleep with me, but he would never introduce me to his mother because I am white. Needless to say, there was not a second date.

I find myself really attracted to guys who have the sort of classic south asian subcontinent or middle eastern complexion, from a purely physical perspective. But I'm also a pretty assertive, liberal-thinking woman, so dating men who are political/socially more Americanized or European tends to work better for me.

In the end, I mostly end up dating white guys.

I guess I'm just speaking from my personal experience here in Honolulu. There are a whole lot of short-ish guys of some mixture of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Polynesian Islander descent.
