Nice! Just be sure to put a hyperlink for each write-up next to the band and label it with the post number.

Wild Flag is an all woman foursome of true rockers. The band consists of:

-Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, the Monitor Mix blog on NPR, and Portlandia fame (vox, guitars)

-Janet Weiss, also from Sleater-Kinney, who has worked with Quasi, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, and Bright Eyes on the drums.

-Mary Timony, from Helium and Autoclave, also contributing to the vocals and guitar

-Rebecca Cole, briefly of The Minders, on keyboards

They are ferocious. They will remind you of the 90s in all the best ways possible. They're amazingly skilled musicians. Their entire album was recorded live except for the vocals. Their live show is guaranteed to be one of the most energetic shows put on the entire weekend. I urge you to check it out.

Jack White is a musician from the middle of America. Some say Detroit, others say a suburb of Detroit. He was in a band with his old girlfriend, then he married some South American model. His old girlfriend got pretty mad and said she didn't want to play anymore. Jack decided to play with some other guys, then he played with some other guys. Last that was heard is he likes people from his home area of Detroit and is making music with some dudes who like to dress up like clowns and spray soda on people.

People enjoy Jack White. He also likes the blues.

Todd Barry: Bitter, bald comedian who usually creeps around UCB. If you're a loose girl, well, maybe you can hang out with some comedians...My friend hooked up with him, I was disappointed in her actions when I saw who she was talking about. He totally ignored her while we sat front row at a show of his at UCB LA.

You'll enjoy him if you like dry, sarcastic humor told by a bald guy who is kind of creepy.

    Portlandia

Portlandia is a sketch comedy show on IFC starring Fred Armisen (Obama, etc on SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (vox/guitars for Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag) that makes fun of aging hipsters. Expect some live sketches for the lulz and hopefully some amazing guest performances. If St. Vincent doesn't play with them, I will be immensely disappointed.

    tUnE-yArDs

Ever gone on a listening binge of recent indie rock success stories and wonder what would happen if you took superfluous percussionists, cat-in-a-blender vocals you can pat yourself on the back for appreciating, and what is labeled as "afro-pop-influenced" by people that have never actually listened to such an artist and packaged them together under an obnoxious name? It already happened and it's called tUnE-yArDs.

    Trampled By Turtles

Five dudes from the Midwest that used to play punk and rock that now play bluegrass. They played Coachella last year. Pretty fun, if you're into that kind of thing. They have a few albums with another that comes out in April.

Beirut is a 6-piece Balkan folk/world music band from Santa Fe, New Mexico (I thought they were from France or Italy when I first heard the band). Originally an individual project, 25 year old front man Zach Condon formed the band after he abruptly left college to travel throughout Europe. Condon notes that jazz had a heavy influence on him growing up, along with Goran Bregović, Boban Marković, and other European folk acts.
I saw Beirut recently in Portland and they were fantastic. The trumpets have more of a presence live than on record, and they often change/rework their songs which is rather refreshing.

These guys, at face value, are very in line with the recent New Wave/80s revival, with plenty of simple, dreamy synthesizers and guitars. But for how similar they seem on the surface, they have a serious catchiness that takes the best of the current New Wave revival without completely mimicking it. It's a hard to quantify difference, but I found it one that separates it from the general scene right now. They seem to do best with more upbeat songs, with shimmering guitar hooks that will be easily danced to come Memorial Day Weekend.

    Best Tracks:

    "Party Talk"

    "From the Morning Heat"

    "The Fog Rose High"

Don't expect any comedy out of Troy Barnes.. Er, I mean Donald Glover. This is his musical project. It's hip-hop I guess. He got the name by putting his name into a Wu-Tang Clan name generator, which you can find all over the 'net. His most recent album came out in November of last year. He does different stuff but I like it. You might not, what do I know?

So these guys, uh, play country. Yeah that's it, except it's not. They have three albums together and are from Rhode Island. The band is literally named after the parasite. Definitely not to be confused with any of the other deer bands.

    Grouplove

An American indie (but they aren't indie because they are signed to Atlantic) rock band that formed in 2009 by Hannah Hooper, Christian Zucconi, Sean Gadd , Andrew Wessen and Ryan Rabin. Grouplove began when Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi forged a friendship with the other three members while attending an artists' residency on the island of Crete.

Grouplove made that song from the new iPod commercial. It is called Tongue Tied.

KROQ has started to play Grouplove a lot. Australians love Grouplove. Triple J has Grouplove on heavy rotation. Here they are rocking Australia

If you like pop rock you will enjoy these guys. They put on a good show.

They have been compared to Edward Sharpe and Modest Mouse among others.

A Canadian boy/girl duo who describe themselves as "Future Pop", I've also seen them described as Electropop or Dream Pop. Corin Roddick creates and then sends beats to the female lead singer Megan James who later adds vocals since they currently live in separate cities. They only have three songs out but have become extremely popular in only under a year. Similar to Grimes, Class Actress and Baths.

Sascha Ring is probably most known for his electronic IDM productions and work as part of the amazing Moderat project. In 2007 his album Walls was released and he put together a band to perform the tracks live. Last year The Devil's Walk was released and like Walls, is a blend of IDM and ambient electronic sounds. A couple other guys contributed to writing this album, including Telefon Tel Aviv's Joshua Eustis. Most of the set will be from The Devil's Walk with a couple older tracks thrown in. Here's a 20+ minute live video -

    SBTRKT

Aaron Jerome is a pretty talented guy and has received a ton of attention over the last couple of years. He's produced and remixed a number of tracks which fall into the UK funky, two-step, future garage genres. His debut self-titled album features vocalist Sampha on a few tracks and has a very distinct RnB sound that works well with this style of bass music. Their live show will have SBTRKT on a drum kit while setting up the programming on a number of electronic gadgets. Sampha will be on vocals and keyboard. As someone who really enjoyed the album, I was quite impressed with some of the tracks live. There were some sound problems here and there, but overall the material translated pretty well.

And with Little Dragon on the lineup, I'm sure plenty of people are hoping for this
